If you mean the SQUIER Fender Classic Vibe then YES!!! There are two versions - the 50s and the 60's and both sound DIFFERENT,mostly due to the pickups used. Go and try both unless you KNOW what sound you are looking for. THere are some Youtube demos of them but for me they dont tell me a lot. I'd want to put them both through a good amp in the shop and tool around for a few minutes to see what tones they were giving me. Remember for a lot of Shads music, you would be using an echo unit of some kind -try and take it with you - it makes a World of difference to the sound you would be "auditioning". cheers ian

Hi Dave, You should be able to buy a decent Mexican or Japan made Squier Strat for around £300 or less. I have had a 95 Mexican strat from new and am more than pleased with it. IMO you should not buy anythig new or too expensive in case you don't (get back ito it),
Regards, Maurice.

Hi Dave
Totally agree with Ian. The classic vibes are fantastic guitars and a bit of shopping around will get you either a 50's or 60's CV for well under your £300 budget. also as Ian has said, an echo unit will completely tranform your sound and if you have one available, take it with you when you try any guitar you may be interested in. Welcome back to the wonderful world of guitars ;D
regards Ian

Hi Dave The 50's or 60's Classic Vibe will be the one's you are looking at, that is their model name. 50's - based on a 50's strat! 60's - based on a 60's strat! Or the one I posted a link to - Simon Neil Classic Vibe, a very fine instrument indeed for the price & a possible collector for the future? They are all current models, not originals from the 50's/60's although I think most of us would love an original strat from that period for less than £300

Hi Dave For a budget of just £300 you will find it very hard to match or better a Classic Vibe, they hold up well against far more expensive guitars. A guitar is a personal thing, what suits me may not suit you. Visit a music shop that has a good selection of guitars try a few out, you may pick one up & think this is the one for me! Only you can decide I understand what your saying but do you think a genuine seconhand fender strat, is better then a new squier fender.

Even whe trying guitars in a shop it is difficult to guage how they will sound when playing shadows type music though EFTP equiped units If you are in or near central scotland give me a shout

Hi Dave I tend to go for older guitar and do them up a bit However for you I think a new Squier Classic Vibe range are excellent and if you want to be very Hank in colour they now do a Fiester Red with a Maple neck www.squierguitars.com/products/search.php?partno=0303000540It will look play sound and feel great. They come in at about £300. best choice in my view. George

Hi Dave. This is an interesting thread. What the guys are saying is that you do not have to pay out hundreds and sometimes thousands to get a good sound. A well set up Squier will sound better than a badly adjusted USA strat. When budget's are tight it does pay to be careful. Hopefully with the guys excellent advice your on the right track. Last weekend as an experiment I decided to see what sound i can get out of the most basic of gear I had. For this I used the following. 1. Black standard squier I bought off the well known auction site for just £30 but as a gift someone paid for a pro set up costing £45. 2. A borrowed Magicstomp with EFTP (thanks Clive ) 3. Behringer EQ700 (cost £25 but this was also a loan item) 4. A USB adapter off the well known auction site costing £4.95 (also borrowed off Clive!). This little unit plugs into the Magicstomp via a 1/4 jack adapter and then direct into the PC USB. Recording software was Mixcraft 5. Which is free for 10 days. I used NO effects other than what the photo shows. The small USB adapter/interface can be seen next to the middle pick up. I did a one take and saved as mp3. Robert will back me up that the above is correct. There is some back ground hiss which is down to the PC sound card and has nothing to do with the gear used. So this little experiment cost me £30 in gear. This is the result. Your thoughts? For a change I did a none Shads tune Enya's Amerantine. I also have the Tab and BT all done for anyone who wants it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GpXK-TDlUUFor some reason the site youtube option does not work but the link does. Tony

Well, well, well. My Giddy Aunt !!! Tony Biker takes the biscuit here. Not the Michael just the Biscuit. £30.00 in gear and a few borrowed bits and pieces, a bit of effort and Bob's your uncle, £3k worth of sound. Amazing sound like that on a budget. Raises the question, why spend more ? I have just picked up a Yamaha Pacifica off the well known auction site Gum for £75.00 (just fancied it). should be here by the weekend. I will see what I can do with it and my Zoom G2 1u with EFTP into Mixcraft. All cheapish gear still. ;D Cheers all George.
