Hi All,
As guitar set ups,I think that strings are also a personal thing.I'm one of the unfortunate ones that sweat heavy in my hands and have tried all kind of strings (including D'adarrio) over the years that were suitable for shads and other music. The Ernie Ball's seem to have last the longest in tone,(3 gigs)no matter how good I've cleaned and wiped the strings after playing, due to the acid contend in my sweat, replacing strings became a expensive issue for me as I play gigs on a regular basis.I switched over to Elixir Nanoweb 2 years back,10-46 on two of my strats for gig work and 11-58 on my custom shop fiesta red strat for the shads stuff and never looked back.Strings last me now 4 times longer, works for me but it is a matter of taste and a personal thing.

Hi everyone,it's been a while since I last posted please forgive me but I'll give my 2 euro cents worth (if they're worth anything still)... I used to use Dad's(arios) for many years and cursed them for forever leaving black residue on my fingers then along came Elixir.Haven't looked back.Tried EB's but not in the same league as the Lx's .My strats (too many!but is that possible?) are shod with 11-52 but I've put a 13 on the top E string and I really need it for my surf guitar numbers where trilling is a must.I may move all the way up to a complete 13 set but the wound 3rd is keeping me away.On my shredding guitars I use Lx's 10-46.Strange how these strings are either in or out with us players but it doesn't matter, as long as we still get inspired!Happy strumming to you all.

Wow. This thread woke everyone up. Amazing how a group of individuals playing almost identical instruments for the same kind of music, can have such a varied degree of opinion and choice. So here is a spanner in the works. I have kept trying Dadarrio's but just can't get on with them. the G always sounds dull, sometimes even dead. Never tried Elixir. I was given a set of Roto reds by my local music shop to try. I found them to be excellent, and at 11's gave the nice warm tones. I have stayed with these and use 10's 11's and 12's Rotopurple with the wound 3rd. Seem to last forever, rarely need adjusting and are smooth to the touch. No end of choice is there. Ian

I used ELIXIR strings for a while, when I switched to GHS Boomers (11 to 50) I noticed IMO an improvement in tone, and since that GHS are my favourited.
Did anybody try the DR nickel plated round? Seems that Hank Marvin used them I was told about DR that their quality is very swinging up n down. Any opinion about them?

Changed to Elixir two years ago from Ernie Balls (10-46) - now I use them on all of my guitars routinely, both Electric and Acoustic - and never looked back. Tone is wonderful and really lasts, great tuning stability and never had a breakage...
Also - shop around on the net - pricing, if you buy a few sets at once, can be fairly comparable to regular strings...
