Just thought i'd share this. A few days ago we had a phone call that my daughter-in-law Sian was having blood pressure problems with her pregnancy and the baby was in distress, anyway to cut it short, she had to have an emergency cesarean at 13 weeks premature. The baby was one and a half pounds, (680g) thankfully they are both doing fine. It's wonderfull what they can do these days, oh! the baby girls name, Scarlett. Phil

Thank you all for your kind comments.
Mother and baby are in the special baby unit at Bristol hospital, they were taken there from Prince Charles Hospital Merthyr who didn't have the facilities.
Sian's blood pressure is slowly getting back to normal, Scarlett is off oxygen and is now on air, scans have all come back ok.

Hi Phil, Congratulations to Your Son & Wife, and of course to yourself. What a precious little gem, she's so tiny , it sure is miraculous what the Doctors can achieve today. I assume her name is from her colour and not Jet & Tony's hit. . Kind regards, Chris

Thanks everyone once again! Chris, my son Simon tells me that her hand is as small as the top of his finger and it shows in the picture. I haven't asked him about the name but I like to think it's after Scarlett O'Hara Phil

Hi Phil and mom and dad of Scarlett Congratulations on the arrival of your precious daughter. She may be tiny now but babies develop and grow and thrive. Our granddaughter Chloe was 10 weeks prem and although not as tiny as Scarlett she was still pretty small. Now 3 you wouldnt think she was ever that small. Thanks for posting Phil - you made our day. Cheers Ian and Val

Hi Phil
Good news that the little one is safe & progressing. We had almost exactly the same as this with our oldest Granddaughter who gave birth at 39 weeks (after a 100mph dash by ambulance to the nearest specialist unit that had a cot available). Brad is now 5 yrs old & just as well as any other "normal" child. It's a worrying time for all, but all the signs are looking good, please pass on my best wishes to the proud parents (and proud Grandparents)
Cheers
Dick.

Hi Phil. I am pleased your Daughter-in-law and little Scarlett are doing well. I know what you are all going through. Twenty four years ago, a very good friend of mine caught an infection when she was expecting, and went into labour at twenty four and a half weeks. The Royal Hospital in Bath tried to slow down the labour but the baby was having none of it and was born the following day weighing 1lb 12ozs. "Kayleigh", had no problems as she was growing up and now has a little girl of her own. Just to show you how things can turn out, I have included a couple of pics for you. I wish you and your family all my best wishes. Regards, Graham.

Hi Phil
also congrats from my side. Must be a great and exciting time for all of you. I still regard becoming a grandfather as one of the best things which can happen in life, and I enjoy my two grandchildren Les and Uma very much; although like you, I have to travel 1200 km to see them in Barcelona.

Thanks Karl, I am luck that my oldest sons lives only eight miles away, he works with me and we see our grand children nearly everyday, this will eventually include Scarlett, my youngest son lives 100 miles away so we don't see our other grand kids so often.
