Continuing on from the earlier Humbucker Thread on Shadow Music , I did a little looking around and heres some guys with some useful ideas on UTube. The simplest mod removing the screws should be easy enough to do !
So there are things you can do to make humbuckers brighter sounding as well as the right pot values.

I love this kind of stuff... If you don't want a humbucker sound, don't buy a guitar with humbuckers... There have been quiet, stacked coiled Tele/Strat pickups around now for over thirty years. It's the number of windings on the coil that makes it sound muddy, not the number of poles. Removing the poles will just make it sound like a muddy single coiled guitar. Rewirng the series coils in parallel DOES get you much closer, as a lot of the middle frequencies get cancelled out - tends to be more Gretschie than Tele. Coil taps work, as well, but neither sounds LIKE a single coil - if you can tell the difference between you and Hank Marvin, you should be able to tell the difference between these mods and the real thing: It's much more obvious. I have a guitar wired to give all three options - tapped, series and parallel. None of the options is close to a real single coil. Taking the covers off the pickups will brighten 'em up, as will turning the middle down on the amp. Of course, being a youtube clip, it must be true, as nothing got edited at any stage! Cheers, Julian
