Try picking the notes out of chords initially. You can play many tunes by playing a chord and picking a lead note in the tune whilst arpegiating he chord. I have played Wonderful Land like that. If you are really new practice arpeggios with thumb and 3 fingers first to get used to using the right fingers on the right strings. Generally the thumb works the bass strings and the three fingers the upper strings.Practice an alternating bass line on the E/A/D strings whilst arpeggiating the other strings with the other 3 fingers.

Not mentioned yet the fabulous Jerry Reed--a guy called Buster Smith has a dvd teaching some of his technique--of course Chet Atkins was a master --loads of tuition material on the web for certain genres of f/style. Have look too at Doug Seven --'Sizzling Guitar Licks'. If its classical f/style you are after there should also be loads of material on the web. Loads of smashing country players use f/style or a hybrid of it too Regards David

Try and make sure you use your thumb on bottom 3 strings, and use 1st 2nd and 3rd fingers on top 3 strings. Also, try and alternate your RH fingers - don't use the same finger twice in a row

Fingerstyle is a very broad term because it encompasses many different musical styles and different techniques. Therefore, for a more detailed analysis and exchange of experience should be defined more accurately what is meant.
