There are a number of Shadows guitar clubs around the country and I've been going to The South Coast Shadows Club for 7 years or more and like most guitar players I enjoy playing and meeting up with the regulars there. Time moves on and I have decided to start something similar in Bournemouth so with a friend of mine we have started a Guitar Play Night where you can play any type of music to backing tracks and not just Shadows music. We're hoping this will attract guitar players of different musical styles which will add to the evenings entertainment attraction and will get some younger players there. If anyone would like to join us please look at our Facebook Group page "Bournemouth Guitar Player" where you will find further details.
Our first meeting will be at The Dean Park Inn, Charminster Road, Bournemouth on Tuesday 4th August and the first Tuesday in the month after that.
We hope to see you there.

very kind Barry, it takes time to build a nice club but even if there are only a handful of you with the same passion it is well worth it. Been there done it! wish you well.

Ken Gilbert and myself started the West Of Wales Shadows and Guitar Club about six years ago. with just a handful of members at the beginning (Ken and myself usually had to cover the balance of the cost of hiring the hall). Now we have grown into a very successful little club, with a wide variety of music played as well as some Shads stuff. What I am saying is, don't worry if you don't get loads of members at first, just stick with it.

Hi Noel,
I remember when Ken played at the South Coast Club and I've heard how you and Ken set up the club and I'm glad it's now successful for you. You mention that you pay for a room/hall for your club. We will be playing in a pub where it's more public and anyone can walk in to listen and it has a stage we can use and it's free of charge. WE get the free venue and the pub gets extra takings from the people there.
With todays internet communications we can spread the word very quickly and I have 20 or so people interested before we start so I hope it will catch on quickly. Thanks for your encouragement.

Hi Barry,
Firstly good luck with your new venture, hope it's a success.
Out of interest, do you happen to know Mike Godfrey (stage name Mike Moran) a fine guitarist who plays around the Bournemouth area. Mike was a member of our band in Norwich back in late 70's/early 80's.

Just as a point on interest, the club known as "Sounds Like The Shadows Guitar Club" was started 18 years ago by Peter Morse and myself and after about 5 different venues in the Watford and Harrow areas, we now reside at the Metropolitan Police sports and social club in Bushey Herts. We meet on the first Tuesday each month. There is a bar and food is available along with a massive car park. It was very gratifying to hear new clubs springing up round the country and we like to think we had a part to play in this now nation wide interest. If you wish to come along or just ask a question, please PM me. For those who may not know the Police club was where the last few Pipe Line conventions were held

I don't know Mike Godfrey (or Mike Moran) but he will be welcome to play if you can contact him.

Hi Peter,
The Bushey Police club. I enjoyed the Pipeline Conventions there. It's a good venue but too far away for me but it's good to hear you've kept the club going all this time.

Hi John,
I've found Mike (Godfrey) Moran here in Bournemouth. I was visiting friends in a hotel and saw a poster of Mike who had a gig there a few days later so I went that night and watched him play and I spoke to him after the show. He remembers you and the times in Norwich. That was a long time ago he says. He sends his regards to you. He's hoping to come to one of our guitar nights as Tuesday is usually his night off.

Coming up on 1st September will be our second guitar night. We had 6 players for the first night and I'm hoping we can get a few more there next time. We were using an old PA system and mixing desk last time and we had some sound problems during the evening so we've ditched the old gear and will now be using a new Bose L1 Compact and a Allen and Heath mixing desk and that's brought us up to date. This also enables us to play backing tracks from a MP3 player as well as CD's and Minidiscs.
Check out our Facebook Group page "Guitar Player Bournemouth" for more information

Hi Barry,
Sorry for delay in responding to your post about Mike Godfrey, I've been away. Glad you met up with him, please return my regards if you see him again. Hope all went well tonight for your second meet, the new PA sounds 'the business'.
