Hi, I recently put my H&C unit to another pedalboard and decided to replace the original power connector plug(5,5x2.1mm) mith an angled one to save space on my pedalboard ! I also noticed that the original AC jack had become very loose, almost unconnected to the chassis. I had to put a locking washer inside the chassis and therefore move out the " brown cardboard or paper washers that were between the original nuts.! Could this be the reason for this 50Hz cycle hum that I'm having now Could you tell me if the"0"side of the power suplly(Your 500mA/12V /230VaC)you sent should be isolated from the chassis of H&C ?
With Kind Regards ; 'MR Jyrki Telilä email: jyrki.telilaATgmail.com
Had this buzzin problem with different equipment and it was solved with a ground connection "somewhere down the line".
Usually this goes through the AC plug on some of the connected equipment.
Just a thought
Leif PLEASE HELP ! I REALLY LOOOOVE THIS H&C ECHO and I DON*T want to put it on side ...............

Hi Jyrki, It is almost certain that removing the brown washers has caused the hum. Please put the brown washers back as they were! If there is any further difficulty, please contact support@hallandcollins.com I will edit your post to remove your telephone number and to disguise your email address from spammers. Regards Charlie

HI Charlie ; I-ll put the washers back but ,without a locker washer the connection will again be loose !!! How the brown" cardboard isolation washers" on the power inlet connector can provide ground isolation from the device's chassis. Should I put glue between the power connector jack and chassis to make it stable cause without a locking washer the connection will soon come loose.....! With Best Regards,'Mr Jyrki Telilä

Hi Jyrki, Please report this problem to the support email I supplied and ask them first of all if you can add your locking washer and if not then ask for any other advice they can offer. I am not sure why you have this problem because it has not been reported from anyone else as far as I know, however, I recognise that it is indeed a problem in your case that needs a solution. I will remove the telephone number from your post. Regards, Charlie

H&C echo unit !.....The ring side of the barrel style power jack(5.5mmX2.1mm) has a connection to chassis when measured by my multimeter(reading of 0,3ohm)....? I apologise my poor knowlidge in electronics but ....., in this case, when an alternating (12V) current via external power supply is being fed to the unit , I think none of the 2 wires ( line or neutral)shouldn't be connected to the chassis itself , but until it's rectified to DC and connecting to signal and power ground........
PLEASE CORRECT ME if I'am totally wrong about this matter..... I was VERY VERY happy with the H&C until this hum problem appeared....

The measurement you have made is correct. Nothing to worry about. A little knowledge can be dangerous! The hum problem did not appear without a reason, as you explained in your first post. More to the point, do you still have a hum problem now? Please let support know if so. support@hall&collins.com Regards, Charlie
