Hi Paul, OK, I accept that the RE-3 is not capable of the sound used on The Snowman. I couldn't find reviews on Harmony Central so do you have a link please? I have looked at the 501. The 3 heads are fairly evenly spaced, similar to the 201 as far as I remember. There is a sound on sound head further along after the 3rd head, whereas the sound on sound head of the 301 is before the erase head. It is possible to get similar delay times to the 301 mode 5 sound by selecting the 3rd head and the SOS head, turning the speed control to the fastest setting, but there is no feedback from the SOS head. So you can definitely rule out the 501/555 as being used on The Snowman. Does anyone know if Roland made another solid state echo other than the RE-3 and around the same time? I seem to remember being told that there were 2 different ones. Regards, Charlie

Hi Paul, I have to make a correction to a comment I made earlier about Alan Jackson re. Shadsfax. Apparently there was no disagreement, it was more a case that the publisher of Shadsfax was a bit fed up at the time with the magazine. There may be more articles after Alan has his Echomatic 2 back fully restored. Regards, Charlie

Hi Charlie,
Let's hope that Alan does so, it would be very interesting to hear more about the drum Meazzi's.
Best Regards,
paul.

Hi Erik, Alan Jackson is from the Manchester area and grew up with some of the players from that area who later became famous. I have known him for about 13 years. For many years he did not have a computer but I think now he has been using one for about 3 years. He aquired a Meazzi Echomatic 2 echo unit about 6 years ago and has been having it restored to original condition. I believe it is nearing completion. Regards, Charlie

Thanks Charlie I know there's some tape Meazzi's around, but how many of the early versions do we know of - this is the first one I've heard of from trustable source.

Hi Erik, I have heard about a number of players who had these Meazzis in the 60s but Alan is the only one I know who has one now. Regards, Charlie
