Hi Folks, I wonder if anyone can suggest appropriate settings for a patch to emulate the sound of the Ventures (e.g. Walk dont run, Perfidea etc).
I use a Zoom G7 programmed with EFTP).
Perhaps there is an existing patch that someone has tweaked for this sound?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Not easily heard but there is a slap delay on some Ventures early tunes, and definitely on the 2 tunes mentioned. Try U6-4.
I think those tunes were played on a Jazzmaster. You might get close enough by using the middle pickup on a Strat and reducing the mids on your amp or on the EQ settings of the G7.
I would suggest copying that patch to a spare location and then tweak the new patch.
You could also add some reverb (just turn the reverb on with the reverb button, then perhaps try changing from Hall to Room and reducing the decay time to sound like a small room. Don't use too much in the way of effects, the sounds on the album are almost dry.
The first Ventures album has some great sounds. I especially like the studio reverb on Ups & Downs. I would still like to know which guitar was used on that one. It could have been a Tele, a Strat, or a Jazzmaster, for all I know. The rhythm guitar sounds like it could have been a Jazzmaster, so maybe they swapped roles on different tracks.
Regards,
Charlie

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question Charlie.
At least I know where to start now!
I find it quite difficult to work out what settings to use just by listening to the tune, but I was convinced that I should use the middle pickup, so it looks like I got that right!
Im not familiar with the first Ventures album but as far as I know, the Ventures have
always used Jazzmasters.
It may take me a while to tweak the suggested patch to get it just right but I'll let you know how I get on. Thanks again.

Well Stranger
I couldn't tell you but I think Nokie still uses a Fender valve reverb. Best thing to do is ask him. Judy his wife, is charming and very helpful, their email address is as follows
judy@nokieedwards.com. I'm sure Nokie will give you all the info you need. Better be quick as I think they're headed for Japan shortly for another tour with the Ventures again. Charlie is right on with the Jazzmaster although later recordings were done playing Mosrites. Now Nokie use his own designed guitar called the "Hitchhiker" while Don and Bob use Japanese guitars which name escapes me at this time.
Hope this is of some help.
John
