Everything said about this man is true. He is brilliant - no other word for it.

While looking for the Marvingers video on You Tube I came across a chap called GG playing Nine Million Bicycles. Does anyone know who this gentleman is, and how he gets his sound, if I could copy it I will die a happy man

I found the clip. He is using the bridge pickup. I have heard many people get a similar sound with a Strat too, so it's down to the playing and the amp settings mainly. The echo could be almost anything capable of having the right programs installed.
Regards,
Charlie

Hi Glen,
I guess that I know this man. First of all please give me the link to his rendition and then, if you want me to contact him, just let me know.
Cheers.

Hi Guys,
No --He isn't miming--He's just managed to get that Perfect "Vintage Marvin" sound.
And Yes I'm still trying to get that sound after 50 years.
Great Video Clip.
Cheers

Hi Guys,
In the end I could locate him on You Tube. His name is Gerard Gabriel and he is indeed a member of our community.
He is a self-taught man, never learned piano but able to nearly play Toccata and fugue in D minor by J.S. Bach.
He also built 2 steam-powered scale model locomotives, fully functionning.
He is really amazing.
If you want me to contact him with questions, just let me know.
Regards.

Hi ,
I can think of one question without hesitation.
How does he get that fantastic sound?
His playing is pretty hot as well.
He gets top marks.
Cheers

Here is the mail I received some minutes ago :
Quote :
"Thanks for your interest. I'm sorry, I have not received your requests via You Tube. Here is the information you are looking for :
I'm using a RFX 2200 Zoom, EFTP programmed (Echoes From The Past), and a Vox tonelab rack.
I'm doing the recording directly to the PC.
Fender or Burns guitars with 12-56 Ernie Ball strings ".
Unquote.
I tried to translate from Google English to nearly good English (as far as I can).
Hope this helps.
Regards.
Gilbert.

Hi Dave,
In my opinion, a Q2 is better than a RFX2200. Just keep it alive.
Hi Glen,
If you look at fr.youtube.com/user/gerabriel you will find that he posted 4 different Shadows tunes, the Toccata on organ and 2 videos about his scale model locomotives (commentaries are unfortunately in French). However, I will tell him that you want some more!
Thanks a lot to all of you for your interest.
All the best.
Gilbert.

GĂ©rard Gabriel posted his version of "Nine Million Bicycles" on the Fans des Shadows site in March 2007, he was the first to do so on any Shadows' site, and it was even before Hank Marvin's version was released !...
Needless to say his mp3 audio version (128 Kbps) sounds far better than on Youtube.
