Hi Bernard,
That sound is absolutely fantastic, well done indeed.

If you just want one of the preset patches to use I would either use the Roland slapback patch or try the binson head 2 maybe. I just had another quick listen, if you wanted to edit a patch I personally might start with said Binson patch with 3 or 4 repeats, balance the level and just adjust the speed till its closer. Here's Darrel Higham playing it unaccompanied with what sounds like a single slap, youtu.be/a5cRqDNYyN8?si=l6ZXokoDD3KvszFLScott

My condolences to Paul's friends and Family. A sad loss to our community, I'm sure we have all benefited from his contributions on this and other forums. Although I've never used a TVS I have learnt so much from the various discussions, as I'm sure we all have. RIP Paul.

I like it, think it's a great take on the tune without deviating too much from the original.

My deepest condolences to you and the family, this is terrible news.
I first met your father over twenty years ago when I purchased one of his vintage units for my ac30. He was a lovely man and a true gentleman. He will be greatly missed by the Shadows community 😔
Regards

Hi Charlie
Thanks for your reply, I shall try them both tomorrow as well as the Binson heads 2+3 ( I also use this patch for you're the one that I want) I really love this album by The Shadows, when I started playing I was strictly in the 60 to 63 camp, but String of hits was the first of their later albums I enjoyed.

Hi everyone,
I've not plugged the unit in for whilst learning this one, but can anyone recommend a patch for Song for Duke, I'm guessing it maybe a Binson patch to my ears possibly heads 2+3?
Thanks Scott

Hi Charlie
The track was released in '70 and the burns stolen in '72 iirc. Going by Paul's list from the TVS site possibly the Echorec or Baby.

Hi Charlie
I think this is the same for the + and GT, as there were the same hard coded chips available. How good they are I have no idea, and no reason to find out. I still have my GT with EFTP, but until recently I didnt realise the previous owner may of messed with the direct levels leaving some patches lack luster, but after adjusting if sounds great for roughly 30 year old unit.

I may of be misremembering, but from memory I think these chips have their shadows patches as the presets on the chip so they wont be lost from a battery failure as they are not in the user bank.

I dont see it as that pretentious, if the manufacturer of his signature guitars want to do like that it's up to them, seems a bit odd doing it at rehearsals I'll say that. But if fender where doing that for Hank I dont think anyone would be calling him pretentious.
I'd be interested to hear the pickups as I have often wanted a hybrid filterteon/paf.

I thought initially Gary Taylor made them for Hank, prior to them being released publicly later on.

That's a very good idea Roger, I use mine in the same way, is it easy enough to do? I know your electronic experience is far far greater than mine, mine is limited to pots switches and pickups.

Thanks for replying Charlie, I have made a couple of patches with head settings that were available on the original unit. The other patch I like for playing some Lennart Clerwall songs in patch 25, I saw on a video at a East Yorkshire gala meeting Kurt said he took an echomatic 2 patch and edited, and although not exactly the same this patch works quiet well.

This question is aimed primarily at Charlie. My memory my be skewed some what but i seem to remember the Q2 had a couple of patches at the end of the user bank labelled euro echo or something similar. I just wondered if the units these patches were modeled after are in the H&C already. I remember quiet liking them. If there are not in the H&C I'd like to program 1 or 2 in.

Interesting you say that Phil, I personally feel the opposite is true. I feel with a thinner pick it feels like it's just behind my stroke almost like its following where as a stiffer one feels more accurate. Horses for courses.
But I think Phil is right just go with what feels right for you, my grip varies through the song.

Anja,
My sincere condolences to you and your family. I had known Rob for over 21 years via the internet, since the days of the original shadowmusic forum, and the many hours spent in the chatroom on there, along with little princess, rockchick, TommyB, strummer, drifter and many others including Rob and yourself. I'm afraid to say that I never had the chance to meet Rob in person. It is a great loss for the community, he will be greatly missed by us all.

Hi Colin,
I'd set the amp as I suggested earlier (I'll take a photo of my caline eq when I'm home from work) but I completely cut the 2 lowest and 2 highest bands on the eq, then the rest I set like an upside down smile so its slightly boosting the mids. But just tweak it to your ear, I do mine.

I position mine between the echo and amp.
