So sorry to hear this. Didn’t know him personally, but we talked abour VOX VT20+ amps quite a bit searching for a Shadows tone.
A loss to this community.

Hi,
I’ve also got the ME-80. The patches as downloaded do a pretty good job. To be quite honest, unless your playing to die hard Shadows fans, the sound will be fine. The only one that definitively needs changing is the ‘Cavatina Hunter’ one. I would remove the ‘Slow Gear’ and use a volume pedal.
I made a further set of patches for a set I did recently and am happy to send you my excel spreadsheet if you like.
Take your time to get familiar with the unit, it’s extremely powerful, especially get to grip with the CTL function when in memory mode. I’m currently using my ME-80 to play Cream and early Clapton stuff.
If you need any further help, don’t hesitate to contact me.

Hi Len,
Definitely agree with you. I bought a Digital Micrometer from Aldi some years ago. It was really cheap, but has proved invaluable when doing setups. I’ve even used it to check string gauges when I’m not sure what I used on a guitar.

I’m sure I read an interview with Hank where he mentioned using a Tube Screamer. I think it’s more to do with his solo stuff rather than Shadows stuff.

Roy,
If you message me your email address I can send you the 3 jpg’s showing the settings I use for Early, Later and Generic Shadows settings.

Roy,
You won’t be disappointed by it. Take some time to work out how the different modes and controls work, it can be a bit confusing at first. If you don’t have a manual you can download it from the vox website.

As Len says, try the Vox VX range, or a second hand VT. I’ve got a VT20+ and it’s a superb amp. Lots of options, and an adjustable power level.

Also gave up on Microsoft after Win7. All my music, DAWs, etc. run really well on my iPad Pro.

I also had a post deleted by them when I enquired if they ever looked at the ‘requested features’ post. It seems IK. Multimedia don’t like/allow any criticism of there products.

Another vote for Tony Clout and/or Steve Gibb. Phil McGarricks are good as well, plus you can watch him playing them.

I think Hank only used the RE-201 for a short period around 1978/80. He did, however, use the RE-301 a lot more extensively, both with The Shadows and on his solo tours. Unfortunately there is a difference between the echo patterns on the 2 units. If BOSS released a RE-301 type stomp box, or a firmware update to allow RE-301 echo patterns, then this unit would definitely be worth considering.

Hi Kay,
Have to add I always use 10/46 Nanowebs. I tend to go through ordinary non-coated strings quite quickly, but find Elixirs last for ages.

Just purchased one last week and, so far, am very pleased with it. Definitely an improvement on my Zoom G1Four unit. Plus, it looks great in the new dark blue colour. There is a Facebook group for owners which is very useful.

Any suggestions as to equipment/effects used on Midnight Cowboy from Hanks album. I think that the first section may be an acoustic.

What echo on a RFX-2000 would be suitable for Something of the Shades Of Rock album, I would assume from the year Hank was using the RE-30. Also, would it be a Burns or Strat ?
Thanks.

We weren’t there, but watched the entire event on TV. This generation will never know, or understand, how it felt watching it.

After, yet again, getting the lead from my headphones wrapped round the castors of my chair and pulling it out of the socket, I’m wondering if wireless headphones would be an option.
I know Bluetooth ones have to much latency to be useful, but are there any other options that anyone on here has had any success with?

I’m not sure, but I think Dave Monk (OldGuitarMonkey on YouTube) uses one. Check out his videos. I fon’t believe Charlie ever did EFTP echoes for it.

Which Boss multi-effect unit are you using. I’ve got a ME-50 which I can tryit on to see if it’s the same.

Can anybody confirm the tremolo arm thread size in Fenders Classic 50’s Player model, I believe it’s a 10*32 thread, not a 5mm but am not certain and it’s seem difficult to find out.

Just wondering if you structure your practice time, i.e: so much on technique, so much on learning new songs, so much on songs you know, etc. I feel I tend to just flit around when I get some time, often wasting a lot of it and wondered if a more rigid and structured approach would help.
