Hi Everyone,
A short while ago, we announced that the Jet Harris Memorial Fund would not be closing after its initial six month period but, instead, it would be kept open with the aim of fundraising for Cancer Research UK - specifically to support the research into ‘Cancer of Unknown Primary’ at Imperial College, London.
A big thank you to everyone who has offered to help with this venture!! Obviously, one of the first things we needed to do was to have a way of spreading the word! So, a small team comprising Rob Bradford, Justin Daish, Barry (my husband) and myself have been working hard to design an information leaflet and website to tell everyone about the Fund. We are very grateful to David Hawley and Paul Rumble who kindly supplied photos for the leaflet and website and to Salvo Cerami who helped with the photo restoration.
The leaflet will be available at Shadowmania, or please contact me if you think you might be able to help to display any. The website is now live and can be found at: www.jetharrismemorialfund.org
Our first official fundraising event will be a raffle on 17 September at Shadowmania. Again, we must thank all the people who have made this possible and most of all we would like to thank Bruce for his kindness and support.
The first prize will be a Burns guitar donated by Barry Gibson and used by Jet in the recording studio last year. The guitar is a Burns Marquee 6 Bass, 25½ inch scale, alder body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard. It has Jet’s name on the top horn and the guitar is in a Burns case. Barry says it is one of only two made for use by the Local Heroes in the recording studio. Both were used by Jet and Barry on different recording sessions.
The second prize will be Jet's own personal ‘Local Heroes’ jacket and is donated by Janet Hemingway. Other prizes include: a fiesta red Squier Bullet guitar donated by Howard Gillespie of Oasis Music; a complete set of 16 Shadows Workout CDs donated by Ian and Joy McCutcheon; a Roland Cube 30 amp donated by Amanda Hambridge; a selection of Jet’s CDs including the limited edition single ‘San Antonio’ donated by Janet; a selection of Zoe McCulloch CDs donated by Zoe McCulloch and Patrick Terrett; a bottle of 12 year old ‘Special Reserve’ Whiskey from Bushmills Distillery, Northern Ireland - specially endorsed ‘Jet Harris MBE Memorial Fund’ on the label – donated by Des McNeill; a carton of 10 boxes of guitar strings donated by Coda Music, Stevenage; and an autographed copy of Mo Foster’s new book ‘British Rock Guitar’ donated by Mo Foster.
Thank you so much to everyone and thanks also to the people who have offered to help on the day. Janet and I remain in constant contact and she is really pleased to hear how much is already being done in memory of Jet. If anyone would like any more information – or if you can help in any way – please do contact me, or come and find us at the weekend!!
Many thanks,
Audrey
