Hi everyone, This is my second recording ever : www.4shared.com/audio/AnyLNaJ-/PEACE_PIPE_V1.htmlI remind you that I re-started playing less than two years ago after 40 years without touching a guitar. This is not a reason to be indulgent!! Any comments, bad or good, are welcome. Regards. Claude - Brussels

Hi Claude,
Very well played and a good sound. I enjoyed your rendition. The backing sounded a little "wooly", perhaps it's the fairly low 160kbps bit rate?
Kind regards,
Chris

Hi Claude,
Very good version.Good sound and and you played as you never have taken a 40 year break! As Chris wrote, a higher bitrate could increase the sound quality. You deserve it! Regards Bo

Hi Chris and Bo, Many thanks for those nice comments. As a matter of fact, here is a beginner's question : what do you mean by 'bitrate' and how can I change it? Regards. Claude

Hi Claude, How is sunny Brussels?. What a great tone you have achieved! & a great sounding echo too. I thought it was great. The bit-rate they are referring too is the mpeg recording quality mode you used to record the master on, listening to it I thought it is just the backing track you are using that is sounding wooley but what a great effort all round, you should be happy with it. Regards John

Hi Claude, Hi Chris and Bo, Many thanks for those nice comments. As a matter of fact, here is a beginner's question : what do you mean by 'bitrate' and how can I change it? Regards. Claude The bitrate determines how much the file is compressed (when converting from an audio wav file for example) and therefore a loss of quality. The lower the bitrate, the smaller the file and the greater the quality loss. Depending on what you used for a BT you may have no control over over the quality, as once it is compressed there's no going back. You may just need to reset the quality of mp3 mixdowns different in your DAW. I use Mixcraft to record with and I mix down at either 256kbps or 320kbps and the quality loss is not so noticeable. Kind regards, Chris

Hi Claude, That was very nicely played and I particularly like the fact that you didn't try to alter the tune, but played it like the record. Nice tone too. Would you share with us what equipment you used - guitar, echo unit, etc? With regard to bit rate, the backing track did seem a little dull. To find the bit rate, right-click on the backing track MP3 file, select Properties, and in the Summary tab, down at the bottom under Audio it will show the bit rate. (That is with Windows XP - not sure about later versions such as Vista or Windows 7). I find 160kbps (kilo-bits per second) adequate for backing tracks, but once it gets down to 128 or so, you do lose a lot of definition. Well done again, Geoff
