Barry, wot you like ;D but thanks for caring, just played a bit of guitar, ready for weekend gig, sorry next weekend, amazin how fingers can get lazy and a bit softer when not in "daily use" Are you still ongoing with the stereo amp xperiment? I have just today ordered a flat tone amp 400watts to give a try with, I will feed it into two pa speakers 200watts each, and see how it goes, if it's good but not enough power then knowing that i'm going in the right direction i'll get a bigger one hmm does that sound right ;D ;D Cheers Brian

GEEEZ. brian I'LL ''hear'' you down here with all that power , but it prove's your'e feeling better ,back to to the guitar already mate ''goodonyer''... ;D WEll as to the stereo yes it is good,as I can cut down the level of the tweeter,s in my cab,s via a pot in each & the 15'' speaker,s are not real bass'y types & are quite tight..... BUT as usual I am experimenting with ,the easy to build ''FET'' preamp's [see project's topic] & I am pleased with the result's... I am a ''bugga'' to fiddle with thing's when I should be practicing more on guitar, but I enjoy doing these thing's.. THE reason I am doing the fet-preamp's is to be able to run the guitar into that & then to my various unit's that have lower impedance's such as my newly acquired,''MAGIC'',Q2 ''revised patches'' from charlie, which are very very good, indeed,, not only the Q2 but the ''ew tech'' compressor, so as I can use compressor 1st up ,etc etc.. THE tone lab does the same job ,but as I still want to finish my valve amp project as well & I , dont want to use the t/lab with the valve-amp,if you get my meaning... ,I have a problem with the valve amp project [mentioned on site] but may have the solution soon? .. Well you will be surprised at the sound you will get from your new amp set-up ,that is unless your neighbour's don't ''run you out of town..''HA.HAAAR''.. ;D ;D ;D cheers ..barry..

Hi Barry : I dont think the flat amp will be very loud, maybe just enough, our pa is 500 watts per channel and if I wished I could be louder than that with my Peavey 100, i think the valves have a lot to do with it, but do you agree that a "nice sound" doesn't have to be loud, but so long as it can cut thro the mix, all this is just an experiment and hopefully I will have the amp in a couple of days, On the way home from hospital I got my friends ( the taxi ) to call in at the music shop and I got a nice pair of jack to speakon leads, so I will be ready for lift off Shortly I will be flogging off somestuff to help pay for all the rubbish I keep buying, well it's not rubbish, Em calls them my "ornaments" LOL cluttering up my bedroom, we only have a small house and unlike you did I dont feel confident enough to build a new room. you see I remembered you doing that so you could have your "music room" great idea of yours that one. have a nice day, Brian

Hi Brian, 400 watts from a solid state amp should have enough headroom to simulate a valve sound using the right kind of preamp that can emulate a power amp sound such as the Tonelab. One let down could be the efficiency of the speakers. Any idea what the speakers in the PA cabs are? Regards, Charlie

Thanks for that Charlie, a bit late now but tomorrow I will check and post any details that may adorn them, they did not cost a lot of cash so I won't hold my breath, but if the idea works I wouldn't mind a bit of spend. cheers
