I thought I'd record my version of this pretty Shadows track, using my PodPro with one of its many AC30 settings. This one has a little drive dialled in as I am sure I can hear some on the original 45, unless it had been introduced by the heavy arm on my old Decca record player. Any helpful criticism to improve is always welcome. I am using a '62 CIJ non export strat with 57/62 pickups, PodPro MK1 with my own custom settings and Quadreverb+ with Charlie's excellent EFTP. Hi Ian,
One of my top favourite numbers this one. I think you set the tone spot-on, and played it superbly. I enjoyed it lots, well done indeed.
Kind regards Roger

Good morning Chris, Lou, Tony, Ian, Garry, Roger and Claude,
Thank you all for your responses which are very encouraging.
Lou, I've taken on board your comment about making the sound "a bit thicker" and will try to improve it. The problem could lie with my using 9 gauge strings and seems to be noticeable mainly on the first string. I may have to try more eq or perhaps some compression, or even use a different AC patch. Will work on it a bit more.
Cheers Ian

Hi Ian. its not so much the light strings. i just feel the sound is comming out a Small Cheap speaker. the whole track needs a little more Depth. also feel the BT needs a bit more Volume. this is my Oppinion !!!! otherwise as stated its a very good track. Regards Lou

Hi Lou. I had thought of running the patch through some 4x10 eg. Bassman so will be trying that. They give more depth but seem to lack the crispness. Regards Ian

Hi Ian.
I have just had another listen.
The guitar and BT levels are fine. This tune needs a thin sound to make some of the notes and chords stand out. If you bassed it up you would loose the clarity you currently have and it may go muddy.
I really feel you have the right sound on this number so be careful about changing it for the sake of it.
Tony

Ian I just had a second listen. The tone is fine as it is. The notes need to sing out on this number. I would say leave it be. It's fine. George

Thanks George and Tony for your nice comments. However I've taken Lou's comment on board and recorded another more "meaty" track. I don't know whether this is better as I have listened too many times to both of them that I cannot say which I prefer. Here is the link to the new version. 05 Midnight (2011 Revised).mp3

Hi Ian.
Not a great deal to choose from either. The volume of the revised version is higher overall. Both recordings sound fine.

Hi Ian They both sound good I still prefer the first one although the BT is better on the second. Maybe combine the 2nd BT with the first guitar sound next time ? The lead does not sing out as much on the 2nd version but as I say both are great !! Clearly a matter of personal choice George

Good morning George, Lou and Tony
Thanks once again for listening and your comments. There are two changes I made to the second recording and they are the addition of 4x10s (which has taken away some of the clang from the solo guitar, good or bad?) and increased the volume of the b/t. That's it nothing more, no eq or any other changes.
Cheers Ian
