Hi everyone, I hope you all have a good Christmas and a happy new year! I posted 2 new videos of me playing Shindig and PeacePipe on Youtube. I still need to work on them, but i hope you all enjoy them. My Pop aka, Grandad, videowed me playing and at the same time he recorded me into his cubase program and after compressing and limiting the track we put it onto the video. I used the US Fender strat. Here are the links: Shindig: www.youtube.com/watch?v=21lFAuTaBu4PeacePipe: www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EJmJ8s4MHc&feature=channel_video_titleHope you enjoy Regards, Chloe

Chloe You don't need much work on either of those numbers you played them both beautifully as they are. I actually learned something from watching your version of Shindig and will be incorporating it into my version. How's about that then ?? One tip for you when playing Peace-Pipe after the first muted section when playing the Bass note part stick with the neck pick-up because that's correct but try picking the strings closer to the bridge for a crisper sound. Just on the Bass notes. Give it a try !! Good luck and well done young lady - TERRIFIC stuff !! have a great 2012 George Hi everyone, I hope you all have a good Christmas and a happy new year! Hi George
Re Peace Pipe. Chloe asked me to reply to your advice and thanks you very much for your kind comments. I agree with your suggestion on the neck pickup. When I videowed çhloe I was quite happy with her performance and to be honest didn't really worry which pickups were used although at times we do use the same pickups as in the Shadows versions. Also, I encourage Chloe to do her own thing and not completly worry whether the sound is exactly the same, I mainly concentrate on her technique and fingering. Regarding Shindig I taught her a number of different methods and in one part she varies from a hammer on to a bend in the same section something I picked from another video somewhere on the web. I think variety is the spice of life and makes us more versatile rather than doing it exactly the same. I will however say that using Charlie Halls patch's certainly brings us close to the real original sound.
Thank you again for your kind comments
Val (Chloes Grandad)

Hi Chloe It's wonderful to see more of your guitar videos and as with the others you've done a fantastic job on both numbers. 'Shindig' is one that is well down my list to learn as it always sounds incredibly difficult but you played it very well indeed! Your timing, technique, tone and overall playing are really excellent and they are very enjoyable performances. Keep up the great work and a very happy new year to you and your Grandad Best wishes Rosemary

Hi Rosemary
Thank you again for your kind comments. Shindig was a bit harder to play and I still have to polish it up but I am on holidays so I may have a bit of a rest from guitar. My grandad aka poppa said to say that he taught me a section in Shindig that he heard in Charlie Halls version and he asked Charlie how he did it so we both learnt a new way.

Hi Chloe, Just to say I enjoyed both videos and I also looked at a few more of you on you tube.
I was interested to see different fingerings you use compared to my (poorer) attempts.
The attention to all the details (red nails for the red guitar, nice smile and looking at the 'audience') is very professional.

I CAN play all of the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order!

Hi Chloe, I'm a 52 year old grandad of three and I,ve been playing guitar for a lot of years. For some reason I've never been happy with my own rendition of Shindig and after watching your amazing version I am going to go back to the drawing board and re- learn it from your youtube video. You really are an inspiration and I bet your grandad is very proud! Keep up the good work (and well done grandad Val!) All the very best ,Regards from John.

Hi Chloe
I really enjoyed both Videos. You have an amazing ability, and your technique is so good that you seem to be able to slow down time. I am also trying Shindig and find I am moving at a frantic pace. You move with such fluidity that you make difficult pieces look easy - which we know are they are not. Keep up the great work.
Regards
Ade

Hi George, John, Bill, Ade, and Lou
Thank you all for your kind comments, and Lou, thank you for the comments on You Tube. I have learnt Stars Fell On Stockton and may post that next year. I am doing Bombora as well so sorry it's not a Shadows instro but I like it. Regards Chloe

Hi Everyone
Once again thank you for commenting on my grand daughter Chloe's Shindig and Peace Pipe. To John: As Chloe's grandfather I certainly am very proud of her natural ability in guitar playing. I learnt Shindig in a completly different way in the 60's so re-learnt the instro after hearing Charlie Halls version and watching a Shadows clip, then I used bits and pieces to use. This version I find is actually harder to play than the way I learnt it but it does sound better. Chloe had some difficulty with it but soon caught on. Ade: I do concentrate hard with Chloe on scales and using all her fingers to get techniqwe. However I didn't know what a scale was until much later in the years and didnt realise I had a little pinky finger I could have used. It took me a lot of time to learn to use pinky. Interesting that you mentioned moving at a frantic pace in Shindig, I swear to God that the instro seems to pick up speed as you play it but I think thats the nature of that instro, maybe I'm imagining it but I think some of the UB hank backings seem to be faster than the record. Or maybe its my 65years of age that life seems to speed up in front of your eyes.

Hi Val
I agree that some UB Hank BTs seem faster than the originals. I have a TASCAM trainer that "removes" Hank (not 100%) from the original and I find I can keep up, but not so with UB Hank. A good example is Ghost Riders in the Sky. I
Kind Regards
Ade - aged 60 and slowing down!!!

Hi Val and Ade I'm glad it's not just my imagination about those backing tracks sometimes appearing faster. The Peace Pipe backing track is one that always seems faster to me but then maybe it isn't. Best wishes and have a very happy new year! Rosemary

It's nice to watch such young people playing this music. I have put the link to the video on our French Shadows' forum, and it's been much appreciated.

Hi everyone and a Happy New year for 2012.
Thank you Didier for putting Chloes link on the French site, I'll let her know when she gets back.
To Rosemary and Ade: Regarding the UB Hanks being faster, I thought it may have been my CD player but for curiosity I'll test it out by importing a Shadows CD track into my Cubase program and play it beside the UB Hank for comparison.

Hi Chloe, and Grandad Val.........Amazing, and Val if only there were more people like you out there ready to teach the young to play an instrument, you should be proud of what you've accomplished with Chloe she really is very good. it beats all these so called Boy/Girl bands. Hi Bob and Arnulf
Thank you for the compliments on Chloe's Shindig and Peace, For her age she is very good and seems to have that natural talent that I didn't. I am also responding on behalf of Chloe. She is having a break from her music as she is at a stage with her schooling that she needs to provide her full attention to her studies and kids at that age have a lot of other interests as well. Hopefully she will come back to the guitar soon.
Regards Val
