Thought I would be brave and post a home recording - my first on this site ;D www.jcvintage.com/JCmusic/Theme%20from%20a%20life%20in%20the%20sun.mp3Not a Shadow's tune, and it doesn't use the Hall & Collins echo unit , as I recorded this back in 2005. It's a remake of an old (1968?) surf instrumental, composed and originally recorded by Australian band The Sunsets - some of who's members later became Taman Shud. I always liked the slow & dreamy feel of this composition. The guitar is my 62 RI strat, with a (then) Dimarzio FS in the bridge position. There isn't a backing track, as such. Drums, Bass and Rhythm guitar were recorded track by track, in the same session, using Cubase vst. Bass is a Fender Precision, Rhythm is a Telecaster, drums were played on an Edrum kit, the midi trigering samples in the BFD drum instrument. (BFD is an amazing accoustic drum module). All the guitars were DI'd dry into a delta 1010 audio/PC interface. No mikes or amps. The reverb (there's lot's of it - on lead and rhythm) and delay were from a plugin called Amplitube. The only mic used was for the vocal during the intro. Surf music........... John

Wow, sounds great John, and it deserves even more praise since you did the whole thing yourself !! Guitar sounds fabulous. I am very familiar with Amplitube and I have used it a lot when recording, but now I have the fantastic little Korg Ampworks, so I don't use that particular VST any more. Also, you have now exposed yourself as an excellent guitar player (and much more than that), so you can no longer make excuses for not posting some sample sound files using the Hall & Collins echo unit . . . Charlie made three (Wonderful Land, Sweet Dreams, and Shindig), so perhaps you could make one or two. It can be from the Echomatic 2 period. We won't mind. ;D ;D

Hi John I got the title confused and thought it would be Place In the Sun but really liked this one too. Great playing, sound and backing. Best wishes Rosemary

Hi John,
That was awesome! Nice fat tone from the FS-1 and impressive drum track. A dreamy theme with lots of surf untertones.
More please.
Regards, Johan.

Hi John,
Very good guitar sound and well played. As Johan, I'm also impressed with the sounds of your drum track, excellent work all round on the backing.
Kind regards,
Chris

Hi John, Absolutely Brilliant mate & what do you mean "Not a backing track as such", just something you threw together then , you are one the best of them will have to keep an eye out for in the future I think. Keep em coming. Best Regards John

This really wonderful John - my sincere compliments. Wonderful melodies and chord sequences... Love the rim shot and the reverb on it. Very elegant lead guitar performance. . .
One of the best things I have heard on here....
Best,
Tony
