Hi all!
I need to know which is the volume pedal used by Hank Marvin. Alternately I would like to know which it would be a good volume pedal.
Thanks

Hi Charls, Hank has used Morley (not sure which model(s), Hank said it was a big chrome one!) and later the Boss FV-300H (the H means high impedance). The FV-300H was superceded by the FV-500H, I think it is supposed to be very similar. They are built more rugged than the cheaper versions and the pot value is better for a guitar connection. I had a Boss pedal, not sure of the model, I think it might have been FV-50L (low impedance, because I use it in the effects loop of my Boss BE-5 pedal). The pot wore out quicker than I thought was reasonable from that brand. I now use a similar Bespeco model and I actually like the volume taper better than the Boss, and the pot hasn't yet worn out! Regards, Charlie

Hanks famous Cavatina volume pedal was indeed a Morley...infact it was a Morley VBO model. VBO stands for Volume Booster, it was a chrome pedal first serie. The serie was followed up by a VBO silver slimline serie and later a Boss. I've a Boss FV300H and it works ok,but I also owned two first serie chrome VBO's and they work far more better...I find the long travel of the pedal a big pro.
Hope this helps

I discovered that there was a volume drop with Hank's Morley compared with his Boss FV-300H. I guess the VBO overcame that problem. Regards, Charlie

John, pity enough there is no substitute for a Morely first series. The way they where build(like a tank)the body was large and therefore the electronics got plenty room inside the device. Later versions like the slime line and the later black slime line are different inside and work a little different. The later series of nowadays are not in the same league as the very fist series. Other brands don't work with a light-cell,they all use a pot of somekind.... Different feel and different reaction.

Hi all, Ian St.John White of Eezee Mute arms fame has Hank's old chrome Morley pedal. Hank gave it to him along with one of his Tolex guitar cases which i have now.
Ian is a member of my Shadows club and while round his house one day he said he had Hank's 40th anniversary Strat in to fit a new Eezee Mute arm and trem mod. I ended up playing Hanks guitar for about an hour.

Hi John
I think the mod that Ian did to Hank's trem blocks was to drill. tap and fit a small Allen headed grub screw in the block under the top plate. This was not so much to remove any wear in the arm hole but to give the arm a certain 'tension' in its arc of movement. This then could be adjusted by Hank for his preferred tension. It obviously removed any wobble that future use would bring but that was a secondary function. Hope this helps.

Hi Johng and everybody,
I am very fortunate because Ian St. John White ( re Easymute ) only lives two miles from me and I have these fitted to both my Strats.
I see that he only does them now in stainless steel ( silver ) I had the last gold one last year. He told me that he couldn't get supplied with gold finish any more for some reason.
Best regards, Baz.

Hi Peter,
Further to our conversation at the Watford Shadows Club yesterday, I live in Harefield, the other side of Ian from you.
Bit of a slow reply I know but I am at that awkward age now, between 9 and 90!!
Best regards, Baz.

Yes, I've got the new Fender vol/tone pedel. Pretty good construction, need to practice to get that 'Crying Game' sound 'cause it needs a forward and sideways movement at the same time!!! First time I tried that was a couple of weeks after I damaged my ankle - oooooh!! Solid, heavy, reliable pedel Dave
