I have plugged it in and tried it out for the first time and ran through a lot of popular tunes and listened to results. PERFECT ! The pre sets are all you need from first use, but I did try altering the Echo Drive level and echo levels on Wonderful Land mainly and got some nice colouration going on. Basically I found if you turn the drive up you need to turn the echo level down. I tried it with and without EQ pedal and it sounds great either way with some bass cut already present in the unit. With EQ playing live it is Fabulous. Anyway Wonderful Land heaven is happening here ! Love it !

Hi Roger, Not sure why I missed answering your thread before, as I did see it. Probably I was darting around trying to keep up with everything that was happening and forgot to come back. Your enthusiasm for the unit is very evident! Thanks for posting and telling us. Regards, Charlie

Well I've had five days of first impressions as I can't stop playing with it and today I got the gear set up and recorded eleven tracks through the little Vox AC4, honestly it's all you need in the house, the sound with the Hall & Collins is pure 1960 Hank ! The tracks can be found in the members sound files.

Hi localhero, I have just played all the tracks you posted and while there are a few rough edges, they just seem to help make the whole thing more honest. I thought overall the sound was great and I am impressed with how quickly you got these done. I have reservations with the backing for My Resistance Is Low as there is reverb left on from Hank that cannot be removed. It is only on the damped sections however. Regards, Charlie

Thanks Charlie, I wanted honest which is why I accepted the takes as they happened. I know about that reverb it's a problem, but the verses sound OK. I just noticed that my Logic software put the guitar on one side on some tracks, did they play for you OK ? I might do a few more tomorrow as I missed out some favourites according to messages received. It does sound great though, I can't put it down ! It's also good practice to get my fingers working again so I'm happy to be playing.

At first I thought you had put some of the lead to the left intentionally, then on one or two tracks the lead suddenly appears in the middle where it should be. The strange thing is that the changeovers seem to be in logical places, so I thought you had arranged that deliberately! Regards, Charlie

I noticed it on my iPad Charlie, the lead track disappeared on a few and when I checked out 'Cosy' which is the only one left on the multitrack, I saw what had happened. I deleted about seven of them after I believed I'd mixed them, using the same space for each different track, the last being 'Cosy'. I have corrected it now.

I forgot to ask you Charlie, that little Vox amp you used for your demo, is it the Vox AC1 rhythm amp ?

No, it's an older one from about 10 years ago I believe. It just has an input jack, a powered up LED indicator, gain, cut, and volume controls. It even has twin speakers! It is crazy how good it can sound for a lot of older Shadows tunes. Istvan gave it to me as a gift last year when he visited England and stayed in Ely for a few days. I have heard that the newer rhythm ones don't sound as good but that must depend on what one expects to hear. Regards, Charlie

I wasn't aware of that model. The price seems good for what you get. Regards, Charlie

Well tomorrow I've got a few more to do as requests, like The Savage, Mustang, Golden Street so I will use the Vox Min 3 and let you hear it. I can't believe how good it is, right through the full list of amp models. I'll be interested to hear how it records with the microphone.

Looking forward to hearing those then! Did you vary any of the controls from 3 o' clock and are the patches used the originals or edited, not that they sounded different to what I would have expected them to? Regards, Charlie

Hi localhero, What do you think about the Vox Mini 3? I bought one two years ago as an practise amp. I was very surprised how good and full the sound is. I just use the AC15 amp modeling and I like the sound very much. The volume to practise is completely enough for my needs - mostly I just use it half way. The best feature - in my opinion for practise - is the aux in jack that allows you to plug a mp3 source with backing tracks. Cheers, Bernie

Yes Bernie I said as much, it's spot on for the Hank sounds, early and later. I love it! Charlie, I did push the echo drive a tad on Man Of a Mystery and Stranger. I wanted mostly though to hear it as you set it up. For Cosy, I pushed the amp a bit to get the distress.

Thanks. It seems to have worked well. Cosy has a lot of distortion on the echo and would be a good one to try with the Echo Drive flat out, and the Echo Level probably around 2 o' clock to 2.30 o' clock.

I have added some more tracks to the sound files for everyone to check out in the non members section, some re-recorded that I inadvertently panned the guitar on, but some different ones too.
