Hi charlie and friends i have just bought a ac15 heritage and i have to say its a great amp i wasnt looking for one but i got the chance of one a really good price from reverb aka the old soundcontrol in glasgow now it was working great the first three days i had it apart from the 63 channel was humming a bit yet the ef86 channel was fine no noise at all but the more i played through the 63 channel the noiser it got (not my playing i have to say lol) so i switched it off waited a cpl of mins and switched it back on and the amp died i checked the fuse and it had blown so i replaced it and switched it back on again the light came back on great i thought only a fuse but when i went to start playing there was no sound at all from any of the channels i phoned reverb and they said yeah man just bring it in the tech will have a look probably a fuse i said i didnt want to check it as it might validate the warranty just in case companies can be fickle nowadays i just find it a bit of a shock as i ahevnt had it that long and its dead chalrie have you any ideas what could be wrong with it i know its hard to try and diagnose something thats not right in front of you but any help on where the problen lies would help i thought it might be the internal fuse but i know nothing about amps apart from changing the mains input fuse and replaceing valves lol
many thanks

Hi Gary,
A mains fuse could blow due to a fault (such as a shorted component or valve), or it could be that the mains transformer has more inrush current than is ideal at switch on. Even so, it does not explain why the amp will not work even when the mains fuse is OK. If the transformer is causing a large inrush and there is no thermistor in the mains wiring, Vox may end up installing one.
I would suspect a faulty valve first, then I would start looking for other things if the valves are OK. There are probably other internal fuses as well, maybe one of those has blown.
Best to get it sorted under warranty, I'm sure it will get fixed properly although it may take up to a few weeks.
Regards,
Charlie

I had this problem with an AC30 straight out of the box. I was at the shop and it was the only Vox AC they had in stock. It was completely dead, so it seems that Vox's Quality Control is a load of c**p. I have seen similar reports on Harmony Central also of this problem. It's a shame because when they do work both the 15 and the 30 are superb amps.

Hi Gary,
As a matter of interest are you using a Magicstomp into the amp, or is it straight from guitar to amp ?

Hi all i personally think that its either an internal fuse or a valve but as i cant take a look myself its niggleing me lol but i dont see why i should have to be without an amp for a few weeks just because of poor quality control by vox so im going to insist i get a replacement i have seen the reviews and it seems to be dodgy valves that are letting the amp down although they are tungsols that are in this one so i will replace them if i get a new one and if i dont get a new one will do anyway jj teslas or mullards .Now i think i have just been unlucky as it could be an early one as it has been in the shop for ages personally it dosent matter where the amp comes from as quality control seems to be on the down side round the world my wife bought a renault car and shes practically rebuilt it lol and britian isnt much better in some respects unless its a cottage industry its all about making the big buck dont mean to rant on boys but i just think the chinease get a bad rap if you where to buy this amp made here you would be looking at a hell of a lot more money for what it is .......

Hi Gary,
Have you looked at the "Info for Magicstomp Users" thread as part of your problem might be caused by the output from the Magicstomp. Charlie may comment on whether the AC15 Heritage would be affected by the MS issue.

Hi george i have tried my magicstomp in every way you can set up from guitar-stomp-amp and a hundred different ways including various other units in the signal chain and having the magicstomp through at least 6 different amps that i have owned or use to own and never had a problem with it (thank goodness says me) i know when something is at fault and i find that you're last message a bit condescending after all you know when an amp is at fault i may not be as technically minded as to ac/dc currents and all that but im no idiot !!!!! lol and i know you were trying to help and i appreciate that .
