Hi Guys! I know this question has been asked a few times and once by myself in the past..but I thought an update on what amps/gear you are all using would be good look forward to hearing what everyone's using and why.

Hi, I tend to use a Guitar, Amplifier and an Echo Effects unit, because that's how I get a sound..
Kind regards,
Chris

I use a Mexican HBM model Strat - only modded by 11's, an extra string tree and the Easy Mute bar. Play mostly through headphones these days (phones can be critical I've found) - guitar to HCSE to 'profiled' Caline GE to Amplug AC30 to phones with some occasional effects in the line. Behringer noise reducer on all the time as is a Behringer compressor (which appears to do very little!).
If not using the headphones route then through a Vox AC15VR amp and then I turn off the Caline GE - not sure even now whether I really like the Amp but it does me ok and my doubt is probably because the Amplug to phones sound is so good - but the amp looks cool enough!
Best bits of the downstream kit are the HCSE and the Amplug. Recording through my PC direct from the Amplug output gives a stunning Hank sound.
Backing tracks loaded on an iPod from purchased CD's.

Regards, Bernie Nice and simple rig that Bernie! Ive been looking at the AC4 myself, but wondered if it would be clean enough for Shads stuff, do you find it has plenty of headroom

Hi fenderibo, For plenty of headroom I've modded it by changing the valves to a 12AY7 in v1 and a 5751 in v2. After that it has become clean enough for Shads stuff anyhow. Regards, Bernie

Ive tried many different setups over the years but the one im using at present which gives me really consistent results is a Fender Mustang 2 Amp and Alesis Q2.

Fender Classic 50's Strat ---> Bespeco Passive Volume Pedal ---> BOSS Blues Driver ---> Zoom RFX2000 with EFTP ---> VOX VT20+.
Sometimes replace the BD-2 with a BOSS ME-50 if I need extra effects.
Tim.

Well I may be the odd one out here, but love the results I achieve. So my gear consists of a PRS 513, Amplifier is the Kemper Profiler With both AC30 and AC15 profiles for the early sounds. Matchless and Mesaboogie for the modern tones. Echo is of course HCSE.

I've started to use a Boss GT 100 and the Hall & Collins, the sound is really close Matthew

Maybe I've missed it, but I don't see any information about which volume pedal people use to get that effective 'swell' sound on the higher frets. Anyone give me as recommendation make and model please? I used to get fairly reasonable results with an old Morley volume pedal, changed to a Boss FV500-H and found that to be useless. Best wishes, Patrick

I use a Classic 50's Strat with SLIDERS VINTAGE PICK-UP'S ( 59's ) A Modern E2 By LGK", a valve driven tape echo built from the specs of Meazzi Echomatic I and II into a JMI VINTAGE 1964 AC30 and a Vox AC15 H1TV 50th Anniversary.

Ive finally settled on a nice setup that gives me consistent sounds at home and live use.
I use Squier Classic Vibe Simon Neil strat with 11-49 strings in to a Zoom G3x with Halls Echo Patches and then in to a Vox AC30 head and for live i use a Vox 2x12 cab and for recording i use a Two Notes Captor. I still have my Katana 50 for small gigs and rehearsals and this also gives a great sound

I guess like many others, we’ve all been through a ton of equipment at great cost to our bank balances. There’s no point in listing all that I’ve had, but having greatly reduced my equipment, my present day “go to” set up is very straight forward for playing instrumentals.
Guitars; Fender Custom Shop 60’s NOS or Fender Classic Players strat. Echo Units; 1st choice Atlantis 1 echo unit and back up, Zoom G3X with ***. Volume pedals; Boss FV300H or DeArmond 610 volume/tone. Amplifier; Boss Katana Mk 2, 100w 1x12.
I stopped chasing “that sound” a long time ago, as imho, you cannot replicate a studio sound in a live situation although you can get close in your home studio if you possess certain equipment and the necessary talent.
Playing guitar is a pleasure, it’s satisfying and therapeutic, so come up with a sound that YOU like using whatever equipment you have and just enjoy yourself.

I have noticed that sticking to my set-up and concentrating on technique and : feeling: the music has improved my overall sound quite dramatically, ie: its all in the fingers.
Keep flogging on, Frank.

Hi Alan, Does the Boss FV300H give you the 'swell' that Hank uses on higher notes please? have an FV500H which is virtually useless for this. Best wishes, Patrick

Hi Patrick, it does indeed, if you check the members sound files, I posted The Next Time from Hank Plays Cliff and there’s a good example of the Boss FV300H on that track.
