I have always found the smart money is on doing it once and doing it right, but it’s not always that easy to find out the exact specifications of component parts when buying a new guitar, questions like does it have a steel block and if so what type doesn’t seem to come up on the radar as a relevant question.
To my mind this should be part of the specification as it very much affects performance and long term functionality, whilst some may not care or have the technical understanding, there are those who do and this type of information should be made available in my opinion. This is why I like the Callaham approach, they know what they are doing and provide all the logical information as to why so that customers can make an informed choice!
This particular issue comes up frequently enough to be relevant to a discerning buyer and is not something you can visibly see as part of the purchasing decision at a dealer, even if you removed the back plate it may still not be obvious.
I certainly don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect this to be part of the stated manufacturers specification!
Regards
Gary

Silvervox, the custom 56 strat golden hardware is also equipped with a generic run of the mill block like all custom strats. Just the standard steel for that type of guitar...almost like the old originals. So it's just a matter of time...depending how much it will be abused...it will get the same flaws as written earlier.
Cheers Rob
