Woke up to the sad news Eddie Van Halen had passed away, can 2020 get any worse? I read he’d been flying to Germany the past couple of years for throat cancer treatment, he was my next biggest guitar hero next to Hank Marvin ( totally different styles I know) RIP 🙏 Matthew

Sorry to hear this. I read he had said cancer of his tongue was caused by holding metal pics in his mouth. RIP Eddie Van Halen. Charlie

His music didn't do it for me but he was a great musician who's died too young.
R.I.P. Eddie,
Len

Thanks for the revolution in guitar-style Eddie!!! Born in The Netherlands, so his favourite welcome word to greet a fellow Dutchmen was 'He boerenlul hoe hangt tie?' Translate to English is 'oi farmersc*ck how's it hanging?' RIP lullo Anja&Rob

He said putting the metal pick in his mouth caused his tongue cancer, but he was a smoker since 12 more likely the cause, he’s in the elite company of guitarist for influencing others Hank Jimi Clapton only others I can think of. He was Hank on steroids with his trem arm abuse haha. Interesting he played the solo on Beat it for Michael Jackson, Quincey Jones got in touch with to do it, and he insisted on going it for free Matthew
