Well here we go again, another inevitable lockdown!
Just when there seemed to be light at the end of the tunnel,in came the 10pm curfew, and now clubs are all closed again!
Even tho music is not my main source of income,i have lost a lot of money this year! playing between 1 to five times a week certainly subsidises my income, and helps massively towards living.
We have also equally missed the feel of a live audience and busy dance floor!
Im sure there are others on this site in the same position as me,and according to my accountant there is no help or grant for a secondary income, even tho i heavily rely on it.
I virtually havn't had a sat night off in 35 yrs(apart from my wedding night, and i value my crown jewels so no chance of that one off) and suddenly we havn't played since the end of march!
It does remind entertainers ,that we as performers need and value the audience and crowds more than they actually need us!
30 yrs ago clubs were packed at 6.30 with no seats left probably thur to sun! Now you can walk into many clubs on a sat night at 8pm and get a seat!
We played with friends of ours from the ivy league a couple of years ago,and they said they know the bubble has burst from what it was.
When people are forced to stay in with their 65" oled tv,Netflix and bose systems,it can be very hard to turn peoples habits around and try to convince people to start coming out again.
Hopefully i will be wrong, but i think there will be a change in the future of peoples habits..not to mention the clubs and venues that wont get through this!
Frighteninly i dont think things will ever be the same again when we can all start up again, but hopefully i am wrong, and we can all carry on as we did before covid arrived!
Even tho i do our bookings and work hard to ensure we are booked up a year in adavance,i certainly made the mistake of taking everything for granted once it was in the diary!
I have learned many things from Charlies great site, as im sure everyone else here has, so fingers crossed for rock n roll and good luck to everyone...
Steve.
