It seems that everywhere I look (I mean on musical instruments for sale sites and forums)that the Boss Katana, in some form or other, features very regularily--a lot of people who have them seem to want to sell theirs. How come? Does it not live up to its claim to sound like a valve amp or an amp that can capture the HBM sound? I think by now and in spite of the 'new/better/best marketing hype' attached to the launch of said amps that most of us older (and wiser?) players realise that it is pretty darned near impossible to get a solid state amp to sound like a valve one and have long since abandoned the search down that avenue. Just curious--some of the second hand prices are quite tempting and I'm nearly persuaded to pull the trigger on one but so far have controlled myself. --Any opinions??

Hi,
I use one for live playing and the sound is great on Shadows numbers, only 50 watt model.
Regards, Garry.

I have a mk 1 Artist I play at home, it’s what I play the most even though I have a couple of valve amps too, the Power attenuation is handy for playing at home Matthew

I use the 100w head and it is great for home use. The sounds are in there, you have to shape them

I have a 30w marshall,a VOX AC30,and a Boss Katana MK2 100w twin, they all have their differances and quirks, the reason i brought the Katana was my AC 30 went Pop and it took some work including new capacitors (with Charlies help)
plus a new send and recieve PCB from VOX to fix it,so the Katana was brought to fill the gap so to speak It really does sound good and this new version (i dont know if its the same on the previous model) you can download all sorts of different styles and sounds from the internet web page into its memory
and it does perform very well
after having it for about a year, and having the trusty AC 30 in opperation again (since Christmas last year) would i buy one now ? probably yes, but you really need the 5 position foot switch to bring it out and thats another £85, I would say go and hear one before you buy, or alternatively go to Alan Mckillop's sound files on here, as until recently he was using a Katana mk2, i would suggest about 8 to 12 months back files and you can hear the great sound he got from his ,that's why I purchased one with great help from Alan.
Hope all that waffle helped
Best wishes
Kay
