Hi Clive,
I do not own one of these units but I watched people reviewing them on youtube. They do look a very interesting unit if a bit pricey. Thing is if it's Shads type music your thinking of I couldn't find ANYONE using it for that reason...as usual it's all distortion which I personally HATE.
If you were thinking about buying one for specifically Shadows stuff, there is ONLY one unit to go for and that is a TVS3. Ufortunately at the moment this is becoming more and more difficult as Paul told me he is not building anymore right now.
I was exremely lucky because I asked Paul if he could build me one and he told me of someone who was selling one in Australia. Anyway with a lot of Paul's help I managed to get the TVS3 over here to England and it is everything you have heard about it.
Regards
Steph.

It’s a pity , that there is no building anymore for the TVS 3 . Same for the H&C Echo Unit as due to world shortages for some parts …. Redesign ? Same for the EF 86 project ? Redesign ?
I never got an answer to my question : Is it technically possible to make : H & C echo + EF86 project in one unit ……. Or is it literal from now on : Echo’s from the past ? I really hope not ! What are the percentage chances that we will still see some new wonderful units ?

Hi Hendrix,
I honestly think the way to go with "early" Shadows tunes will always be either a genuine Meazzi or a TVS3.
I have used digital sound processors and even the VERY good VST package from Christian...and to ME the audio output ALWAYS sounds too clean too processed..especially the the ECHO-TAILS" they do do not die out naturally.
You do not get that with the TVS3 because although the echo patterns are digitally generated the TVS3 has VALVE generated audio pre-amp etc and even the echo's sound 100% genuine.
I also have in my posession a "MEAZZI ECOMATIC" 1 & 2 "clone" built for me at considerable expense by Lars Goran Karlsson which is the closest you,ll get to a Meazzi echomatic apart from the TVS3 of course.

At the moment it looks like a redesign is needed for both units if the different parts required would still be available. It isn't possible to guess the percentage chance as it all depends on parts being available. Regards, Charlie

Just to follow on from comments by Steph and Charlie above, I am currently building a small lot of TVS3's for some special requests, however sourcing parts is becoming increasingly difficult and costs are also increasing. As Charlie commented, redesigning to accommodate the shortages is not a viable commercial option given the specialist nature of the products.
Also, just a small correction, the echoes are generated in the TVS3 using analog processes and not digital as Steph suggested.

Reading this thread thread I'm slightly confused as to the direction of travel, the Kemper is an amp modeller/profiler, does it even have specific FX properties that might be suitable for Shadows echoes?
In his thread Dave Robinson says "I intend to clone all my amps, the Vox AC30/4, Pinnacle KV30, Fender Twin and the Peavey Delta Blues 1 x 15", no doubt he will be using it in conjunction with his Meazzi, TVS 3 (or another).

Hi everyone just to correct my mistake and apolgise to Paul.
The echos in the TVS3 I should have said are ANALOG generated. I did question myself as I wrote this because it contadicted what I said about DIGITAL echos's. Steph.

Hi Steph, Going way back I have alway tried to stay with analogue external pedals where possible, I still have a little Catlinbread Echorec which is a little fiddly to set the head patterns, but sounds really good: catalinbread.com/products/echorecFor convienece I also use plugins and despite having Echoboy and Fabilter Timelss 3, I find WavesFactory Echo Cat has those interesting tonal characteristics: www.wavesfactory.com/audio-plugins/echo-cat/I'm in the process of upgrading to an Apple Silicone Mac, I checked with WavesFactory last week and they are close to releasing a fully supported version, I'm really interested to see how it performs! Hi Gary,
I always find this sort of discussion absolutely fascinating.I have to admit to being to being an unashamed fanatical perfectionist when it comes to recreating this "magical" sound which I think we ALL crave.Probably like MOST on here I have units like the Quadraverb GT, Q20,Q2 etc. Most if not all get very close to the ECHO PATTERNS, but in my personal opinion NONE even come CLOSE to what we will call "THAT SOUND" (I do NOT have a Hall & Collins ) echo so I can't comment on that.
I do have a MEAZZI CLONE as I said built for me by Lars Goran Karlsson. Kurt Froberg of the RYDERS I think i,m right in saying has the ONLY other one. Lars supplied me with a schematic of this Meazzi clone and it IS indentical and sounds AWESOME.
Yeah I have heard the Catelinbread sounds very good. Not heard too much about the others you mention.
I recently bought an iMac 2019 got fed up with Microsoft products.
The new silcone Macbooks are getting crazy now and the Waves package used to be very tempting until I bought myself a TVS3.
Steph.

Hi Steph, Wow …. having a Meazzi clone built for you is pretty hardcore, these days that or restoration is about as authentic as you can get, it’s almost instant gratification! I was going to say there’s not too many people who have something that special and a TVS 3, but I guess it’s a bit like guitars, addictive and all part of the journey. I’m familiar with many of the units you mention through others rather than personal ownership (I ran a Shadows club for about 6 years), for quite a while I used a MagicStomp with Charlie’s patches, several of the guy’s purchased the H & C Signature Echo when it became available and after I left either one or two were purchased as club equipment. For me the MagicStomp had the echo patterns, but I always felt something was lacking in character, this is where the Echorec has the edge in my opinion. I also have a Strymon El Capitan which is not too shabby with a little compromise on some timings, Dave Robinson did a few demo videos of it’s big brother the Volante which is more suitable and got some pretty impressive results for the price: www.andertons.co.uk/guitar-dept/guitar-pedals/delay-pedals/strymon-volante-magnetic-echo-machineFor convenience and the practicalities of home use, I now use pretty much an all computer based setup with a Boss wireless system, Peterson strobe tuner to a Focusrite Clarette 2 Pre USB audio interface, which goes to the Apple Mac. Having previously been through all the good stuff in amp modelling software over the years, I’ve recently gone back to using the AC15 modelling in Helix Native (as opposed to AC30), this gives me a lot of options for experimenting and generally works well for me. I’ve been trying to keep everything software based with minimal compromise and whilst not directly associated with the Shads the WavesFactory ( BTW this is not “Waves” software) Copy Cat has much of the character and tonal qualities. Using a parallel rack in Ableton Live, I cobbled together a a six head version and combined main controls through macros. The Sound Toys Echoboy is generally considered the defacto standard for a delay plugin, but it now seems a little dated. The one I tend to use most of the time in the chain is “Little Plate”, this is based on the EMT 140 plate reverb: www.soundtoys.com/product/little-plate/I also have almost the full range of Fabfilter plugin’s, they are highly rated and I have tended to purchase them when they are on offer. These are really interesting as they are based around their own unique filters and method of inter linking the control over them. Their latest delay plugin is “Timeless 3”, basic use is pretty straight forward, but the possibilities for tweaking the filters and effects are enormous: www.fabfilter.com/products/timeless-3-delay-plug-inWhen you mentioned Kurt Froberg, a while back I watching the video below, but didn’t catch on to what he was saying about the H. & C patch mods to give a longer pre delay at the time, but later recalled it when Jason Sadites was also talking about it (Jason does a lot of Line 6 Helix/Helix Native videos): www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPtd_IB1W0MI think this may be quite interesting and intend to play around with this a little more! Best regards Gary

Gary, I think I agree with Phill all these different amp modellers and digital pedals can become a bit mind boggling. Some sound really good but for ME if they are "digital" I wont touch them ONLY because for EARLY SHADS sound I don't think they cut it. Yeah I have watched that Karl Froberg video. The Ryders do get a lovely LIVE sound. Some of the best LIVE sounds I have ever heard are from LENNY CLERWALL & FRIENDS, with the WONDERFUL Tom Rocker Ohlson on lead,Kurt Froberg rhythm, and the fantastic Lenny Clerwall on bass.THE best version of adagio I have ever heard. linkSteph.

I now have the Kemper Stage model and the sound is there in spades. I did intend to profile my ow Vox AC30/4 but there really is no need as the pre-sets already include the magic tone. Yes it is expensive, but along with my TVS3 I have the sound of the original recordings. It will be interesting to hear it with my Meazzi Echomatic, as temperamental as it can be. The tone that it adds is a big part of the sound and Paul has captured that in the TVS3, but I will check out the Meazzi when I get the chance.😊

I have during the last hour had a play around with the Kemper's echo parameters and there is enough control available to get somewhere near the correct echo tone - decay - distortion & modulation, but you have to be careful not to over do it. I was making adjustments whilst A/B testing with my TVS3 and it is very encouraging, in that none of the previous devices apart from Volante has allowed editing to the echoes in this way. I'm having a lot of fun with this and I only had it a few days. Regarding the amp tone, I'm now convinced that pedals and gadgets such as the Ariab and Gemini III are not essential to the sound if you have a good Vox core tone to begin with, though they do help if you struggle to set up an amp for yourself.😎

I wondered about the echoes on the Kemper at first and then I got to understand how it works. During that past couple of days I have made an echo for Apache and one for Wonderful Land, using my TVS3 as a comparison. By editing the parameters available on the echo taps - and there are quite a few, I have got it very close to the sound of the TVS3. So much so that whilst playing a tune with both devices in line and switching from one to the other, no one can say definitely which is the TVS3 or which is the Kemper. Granted, the TVS3s preamp with be helping the Kemper's echoes by adding 'that magic' to the sound, but when I remove it by switching it off, it is still d**n close. I'm pretty much convinced that once I get to know more about the Kemper, I will find the parameters in there that will add that extra magic that the TVS3 has, but I'm in no hurry to do so as the TVS3 is going nowhere. For me this is not about trying to replace my TVS3, it's about learning how to get the best out of my kit and these results are just a spin off. I will use the patches I've made and edit them to suit other tunes by adding or reducing levels or feedback. The next challenge is getting Paul's Flingel Bunt echo. 🤓
