Hi everyone, A subject I haven’t seen covered here as to how we all have our settings/ EQ on our AC30, on normal channel and with the EF86 mod. Would be great to know, I am constantly re adjusting my settings, I’m using 56NOS Strat AC30/ EF86 mod and H&C. Great to here what people think is the best settings. Cheers Peter

Hi Peter, AC30's vary so much it is difficult to suggest. And for Shadows tunes alone, even they vary so much too. I think a common technique is to use the cut control to take some of the edge off the highs. Regards, Charlie

Hi Charlie, Thanks for your comment, Yes I guess that’s pretty badly right and must admit I find myself doing this and the venue dictates how I set it. Cheers
Hi Baz, Well, it’s still sounding great, I used it in a none Shads role on Saturday at a music festival backing up an EXFactor finalist and it delivered the goods, I get funny looks when other musicians see me using an old Boss Me5 but they are great, not found anything better for the Rock/varied music situation. Cheers

I had similar problems with my AC15 C1 and then I stumbled upon a YouTube video by Ronnie Gustavason. He set his amp flat, used the normal channel and controlled the sound by using a Boss GE-10 to shape the tone. I had an old MXR 10 band eq and I used it in a similar fashion and it makes a difference, particularly the Vox hum/hiss which is eliminated. Could be worth a try.

Hi there, I don’t know about others but I have found, the more gadgets/boxes plug ins I have in the chain, the more the sound is lost. Does anyone else find that? For me, the sound has to be picked up and then has to travel and as it does it breaks down until it reaches its destination, does that make sense to anyone ha ha. I try to keep my chain as simple and as direct as possible. Pete

This is not an absolutely apposite reply, because of slightly different amp, but I play a 56 reissue Strat, with CS50 pickups (pretty much like the original) through a H&CSE, into a modern Vox AC30 C2 (with Greenback speakers), using the ‘Low’ input of the Top Boost channel. As an example; modern sound:- e.g. “Love is All Around”:- Guitar Bridge pickup; all guitar knobs full ‘on’.
Amp:- Tone Cut 3.30 o'clock Bass 3 o'clock Treble 1 o’clock Master vol full Channel vol to suit circumstances Some extra amp reverb to suit circumstances
H&CSE patch P36
The Tone Cut control exerts a massive effect on the sound. I don’t suppose the above helps you one little bit!!!! But it’s the way I roll! All the best, Milko

Hi Peter, You sounded great to me last time I heard you. I know it's been a while (my health keeps letting me down) but if nothing in your set up's changed the only changes you should have to make are a bit of EQ depending on the room you're in. When they were all the rage here a few years ago I acquired a Caline 10 band EQ pedal - cheap as chips. Cruachan published a list of his settings here charliehall.proboards.com/thread/19314/caline-cp-24-band-settings and they work whatever else is in the chain. Len

Hi Len, Nice to here from you, yes re EQ, I think I’ve cracked it as they say, I don’t alter anything apart from the volume pot and Cut control. I find that gives me a very good representation overall, I keep my Bass and treble setting in the same position, on the EF86 channel I back off in the cut control for the likes of Gonzales, Man mystery etc, for ‘Tonight’ and similar I use more cut, that gives me a pretty good ballpark.
Cheers Peter
