Thanks sheendigs for your fast reply, it seems buying from America to Ireland just for strings would prove costly, perhaps there is a UK store that sells ideal Burns strings

The Burns strings are made by Newtone. You should be able to find them in the UK as they are made there. Regards, Charlie

Hey Ronnie,
As always a matter of taste ... For years I prefer just these strings on my Burns Marvin Guitar - with a wound 3rd and with satisfaction:
Kind regards, Bernie

Hi Bernie
Thanks for your advice, I always find the 3rd string lifeless no matter the brands.

I have used different makes on my 1964 Marvin, usually 12’s and of course a wound 3rd for the mid 60’s sound. I have no preference, just check out my Burns sound files, there is no magic make for that tone. Phil

If you’re after that mid 60’s sound Ronnie, it’s all down to the right pickup, amp setting and echo patch and volume, that is if there is echo on the original track your after.

Is there a problem with the string slot in the nut Ronnie? If that's OK you could consider changing a plain 3rd for a wound 3rd or vice versa as necessary.

Thanks Phil. I can get the sounds but somehow feel the 3rd string feels dull Ronnie Check that the wound third is resting properly on the zero fret and bridge, ( I doubt it's a nut or zero fret problem as this would only relate to an open string being plucked) I’m not sure which Marvin you have, ie. A vintage or modern, sometimes with pickups, a magnet can be too low, if this is the problem, miniature magnets of the required diameter can be bought on the net and of various thicknesses to build up the original low one. You can also cut a disk from nail of the right thickness just to try. Can you post a sound file? Phil
