I just wanted to bring to attention my recent discovery, and hope that some of you don't experience the same horror as I have. I have an American Professional series Stratocaster in polar white, its my first choice guitar.. brilliant to play. I have a small studio where I do my playing and practising ,the studio is at the bottom of my garden, and has 2 windows with closed blinds all the time, and have my guitar on a stand facing 1 of the windows, well I must have been blind for the last year or so, when I went to play it the other day, I thought ... Funny, my guitar looks a bit dirty, and much to my horror, the colour had turned to a cream / yellowish shade, the back of the guitar is the original colour, but the front, which has been facing all this time towards the window, has turned a yellow colour, it looks for all the world its been kept in a smokie bar for years, its just so annoying, and what would it cost to have it resprayed. Fender sell loads of relic guitars, for them that want it, I can't believe that I've gone all this time without noticing it.... just shows how you can easily take things for granted . the lesson to be learnt here is, don't expose your guitar to direct day light or sun light for any length of time cheers Colin

That's annoying Colin. I am not sure if it will work or not but you could try using a little bit of T cut on a small area to see if it restores it to it's original finish.

I would think the drying/warping of the wood is more a worry than the colour....

Hi Colin
I really sympathise as this is something that I'm always conscious and wary of because I have several guitars hanging on the wall directly in line with the window.
I'm rather puzzled, though. You say the blinds are closed all the time in which case how has the guitar been exposed to direct sunlight? What type of blinds are they - Venetian, vertical, metal, material, plastic etc? Mine are the plastic Venetian type which are adjusted to admit the minimum amount of light and, touch wood, I haven't had any problems which won't be of any consolation to you, of course.
Cheers.
Tony

Hi They are venetian blinds , plastic, white , and are left closed all the time ... I have tried using T cut, but without success ,thought of contacting Fender, but I don't think they will be to helpful, a respray will cost god knows, but that seems the only option if I want it back as was. there are no signs of warping etc, and will a respray de-value the guitar should I want to sell cheers Colin

I have an American Pro Strat in White which I bought getting on for 5 years ago. Always keep it in the case and not experience this problem as yet. I think if paint is not treated to UV like they do with uPVC , then yellowing and fading by the Sun will occur. My favourite strat these days!

I think your dead right with the UV issue, as to keeping it in its case, well like yourself its a fabulous guitar to play, I love to see it on show, had I kept it out of sight , I wouldn't be in this situation ... does anyone know the cost of a respray? but maybe its best left alone? playing it is what matters cheers Colin

Hi Colin, I had one of my Strats colour changed professionally about 7or 8 years ago that was £95.00 I guess you could add another £80-100 on that now (just a guess)
Good luck
Kay
