I panicked a bit when updating my Helix LT Gary as it got stuck on the boot failure message and didn't sort itself out I managed to put it in update mode and ran the updater again and it sorted it out

Hi Sandra.
I have Helix Native, but if you look at note 2 of Updating Helix/HX Hardware in the link above it says the following:
"Helix Floor/Rack/LT only: Halfway through the update to 3.50, Helix's LCD reads "Boot Failure. Entered Update Mode!" THIS IS NORMAL. Breathe deep, everything is fine. You're almost there."
Then there is a nothing to see box indicating that you will get "Boot failure. entered update mode"
"HX Edit will display a message indicating the device must be reset. Click resume and wait for the second part of the update to complete."
My understanding is that they have made significant changes to the core engine, which makes it more efficient and uses less resources, they also say it can take 30 minutes or more to run.
I haven't got much further than trying the cabinets at the moment, but this is certainly a significant update.
I would be interested to know what you think of once you're up and running?
Gary

Hi Sandra It’s stated that the cabs use 66 to 80% percent less DSP resources, the dual cabs have parameters that you can change on both speakers independently by clicking each of them, so you can have different mic’s, position, distance and mic angle using one dual cab. The only way to do this before was to create parallel track on the bottom routing and have a cab on each going to left and right outputs or use third party IR. I used a modified version the routing in video below: www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvQnIXR5MwYI also usually set the low cut for 110 Hz and High Cut at 8 kHz. Hope this helps! Gary

I was expecting it restart itself or to tell me to do something else, but I waited for ages after it came up with the "Boot Failure. Entered Update Mode!" message Gary but I think I would have still been waiting if I hadn't manually gone into the update mode and ran the Line 6 updater again, luckily it went all the way through without any problems that time but it seemed strange as it said it was on 3.50 as it started up before it went into the update mode.
I haven't really used it since I got it a couple of years back, as it looks a bit complicated, but I couldn't resist it at the price I was offered it at, shortly after buying my Line 6 JTV 69S guitar.

I've not used theHelix hardware versions Sandra, but I'm pretty used to doing firmware updates on other devices and with updates to core functionality they can sometimes be a bit tricky. In terms of complexity, it can seem daunting to do the more advanced routing, but once you get used to it, it will make more sense and I think you will find it's well worth the effort! Jason Sadites does a great range of videos on YouTube from getting started to using more advanced features and getting particular tones. Looking this up for you I have discovered that he has caught up with the 3.50 update: www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHW8kCl3T0AIf you will follow his links or search for him in YouTube, you will find a wealth of information that can be adapted to your particular needs! If I can be of any specific help please let me know. Gary

Thanks for that Gary, I will watch some of his videos. Finding time to learn how to use it is the problem as I seem to be spending more time using TeamViewer these days helping people to play their guitars and record using Christian's VST Host program and various DAWs, as well as fixing computer problems, than I get to play my guitar. It's a good job that I like helping people but a bit of time for myself would be nice occassionally

There was a time I could certainly relate to that Sandra, a little more “me time” is always good to improve ones own skill set/knowledge and keep up with all the new innovations, hardware/software developments.
In terms of computer related subjects like DAWs and recording providing help can be challenging because many are using older operating systems/software and only interested to the point where they are spoon fed information to resolve a particular problem or provided with settings. I often feel this is a shame because many are really talented players and I think it would bring so much to their satisfaction and enjoyment being able to understand and remove some of the confusion that they often see as being beyond them.

Hi Sandra, I also came across this video which is a fast approach to get you up and running with amp modelling/getting tones in Helix: www.youtube.com/watch?v=B401g17Q6IY&t=147sI tried the one or two of the Vox tones, I found a need to drop the drive back a fair bit, but other than that it's a good starting point!
