HANK MARVIN & THE SHADOWS FENDER CUSTOM SHOP STRATOCASTERS UPDATED - OCTOBER 2012[/color][/b]
This post has been amended and the above link removed. A new link to the attachment mentioned is to be found AT POST REPLY NUMBER 22 further down this thread. NOTE that you will need to be logged in as a member to see and download from this link.
Above this message you will see a link to a large poster/print fact sheet in PDF format setting out the specifications and providing illustrations to exhibition standard of the four main Hank Marvin & The Shadows Fender Custom Shop Limited Edition Stratocasters. I hope that members will find this document informative and it will, once and for all, provide a permanent and accurate resource for information on these instruments.
I am aware that other 'Signature' models of various kinds have been built and sold over the years, but I have chosen to review and document only the four principal Fender Stratocasters which were approved and fully endorsed by Hank Marvin and Fender.
The information has been collated through knowledge obtained by personal ownership, at some time, of all these models along with supporting evidence from commercial advertising of the models, specifications supplied by the Fender USA Custom Shop, commissioning Fender dealers here in the UK, commercial invoices and of course other evidence kindly supplied by individual model owners.
Please read the notes on the model specifications, particularly relating to colours. We have spent a great deal of time getting the relativity between the colours correct. However no matter how much we try specific colours will vary on individual screens. The printed version of the fact sheet displays colours which have been accurately matched to the relative guitars.
I am grateful to those who have supplied me with images and other information, and who have also proof-read the information time and time again to ensure that it is correct. Without their help this project would not have been possible.
The poster/print is freely available as a PDF download from my commercial website at Mountain Images. You will need Adobe Acrobat installed to view the document.
Alternatively (or additionally) the high resolution printed copy, double A2 in size ( that's two sheets of paper 594mm x 420mm ) is also available for £10 plus £3.25 P&P. It would make a great wall poster and Xmas present for any Shadows’ fan !!
Remember .. you’ll see the Mountain Images’ logos when you go to order the printed version in the shop. The shop is easy to use and has a secure payment and processing system.
I hope you find the document interesting and informative.
Cheers,
Ian

Hello Everyone,
I am very sorry to have to inform forum members that I have removed the pages on my website to which the link originally in the initial post in this thread was pointing, and I have also withdrawn from distribution the free PDF file on these guitars to which it refers. The PDF file was posted on E-Bay as a selling aid as part of an item description for a £25,000 Hank Marvin 40th Anniversary guitar with total disregard to copyright law and in the absence of any permission granted by myself or the other people who contributed their time to this work. The offender has obviously obtained the information by means of a visit to one or other of The Shadows' forums because the webpage was not submitted to, nor ranked by any of the major search engines.
When challenged and requested to remove the appropriate section of the item description, the offender responded by saying that none of this publication was my work and he would continue to use it because anything on the internet it was free. There was no mention of an apology, no please or thank you; all I received was abuse and insults.
It is most disappointing that, though its misuse by one person, members can no longer benefit from all the hard work and time which was freely given in order to produce this guide. Sadly the attitude taken by the offender is typical of our times when people think they can take what they like and do what they like without any thought, consideration or respect for others.
However, that said, I am prepared to continue to make the printed version available if anyone wants to buy it. But, I am no longer prepared to produce it at cost, as I was in the past. The new price of £17.50 is now in line with other products I sell and is still good value when the quality of the print, and the work that has gone into it, is taken into consideration. Members should contact me using a personal message if they wish to purchase the printed version.
Cheers
Ian

Hi Ian, This activity by the the well known auction site seller has made me very angry. Please let me know by PM or email who the seller is. Regards, Charlie

Ian, if the seller doesn't have your permission to use the link, report the item to the well known auction site.
If enough people on here use the REPORT ITEM button the well known auction site will do something. The the well known auction site link is on the other site, probably everyone on there could do the same.
Cheers Barry

Hi Ian,
I assume that it is this guy (nevsguitars) that is linking directly to your domain. Please confirm, if it is I shall be amongst those reporting him to the well known auction site if you want numbers to add weight to your argument.
Kind regards

Hi Guys,
Firstly, many many thanks for your support.
Tony Ramsden and I spent a lot of time preparing this guide for Shadows' fans and we want to keep it in the public domain not only for your enjoyment but also as a permanent resource. It makes me very angry when people ride rough-shod over others without even a please or thank you for the use of the work that they pirate.
I have contacted the seller (all I know is what you see on the E-Bay listing) but he refuses to remove the reference from the description.
I have reported the matter to E-Bay, and complained that the listing breaks E-Bay rules on two counts - it is an illegal link, and also it contravenes copyright.
Any support you can give by making additional reports to E-Bay would be most appreciated. Tony and I would like to get this work back into the public domain, and having this listing removed would be welcome encouragement to achieving that aim.
Charlie .. Thanks for your support - I know no more than what I have already said. The seller (who does not appear to be the owner - you might know more about that) lives near my old stomping ground in North Wales, but I do not know who he is.
Cheers,
Ian

Hi all
Just to add my two pennorth. I fully support Ian's decision to remove the pdf download facility, particularly after seeing the seller's cavalier response to Ian's request for him to remove the link to the download from his listing but it makes me very angry that Ian has effectively been forced into this position.
Ian and I have gone to a great deal of time and trouble over the last few months to make this document available to members. The intention was to share our knowledge with members purely because of our mutual interest in all things Shadows related, and the fact that someone has seized on the opportunity to help with a potential financial benefit really goes against the grain irrespective of the fact that the asking price seems ridiculous and he is unlikely to achieve it.
I, too, have reported the seller to the well known auction site in the hope that the listing will be removed.
Cheers

Hi all
Well said Tony and all, we need to stamp on these opportunists as soon as poss. The Shadows community which is us and many others round the world are an honest bunch, always willing to help and never ripping each other off. Sadly, since the Shads movement started and i like to think i was at the start of it many years ago, one or two unscruperlous charactors have emerged with only money not the music as their agenda.

Hi Ian, It was a illegal link to your own site, without your permission and he would not even respect that when asked to remove the link. At least now that you have removed the page, his link no longer works, so that should stuff him and there's nothing he can do unless he has stolen the page too. Hi Peter, Well said, but there are many more than one or two pirates on the well known auction site and probably elsewhere. Regards, Charlie

Looks like the reporting of the item to the well known auction site worked as the link has been removed.
I have a lot of dealings with the well known auction site having been on the system for over nine years both here and in the US. I've found over that time that it's not much use when one or two people report dodgy items, but when a few get together, as on here, it certainly helps.
It should be remembered that the REPORT ITEM button is there to proctect the whole the well known auction site community, so if you see something a bit dodgy let others know about it.
Cheers Barry

I have followed suit and reported it and got the normal reply that its being dealt with. I agree that the more the better that complain. Ian has produced an excellent historial document, and the daft thing is, had the guy asked Ian for permission, Ian may have agreed!

I also reported it, as I mentioned in another thread, but also complained that the item was not used by Hank as he didn't like it. Maybe that helped. Edit: just noticed it is still there, now with full description added. Regards, Charlie

I emailed him yesterday and said; "Your link don`t work". I got a reply stating; "I know. I`ll be putting up a full description tomorrow after 11." At least he had to do a bit more legwork but it doesn`t excuse his attitude to stealing Ian`s work. Pillock!

Hi Ian,
I am sorry that you had to deal with all that nonsense.
I'm sure that fans of The Shadows, myself included, are very grateful to you for compiling all the information on the Fender Custom Shop models. What a great resource.
Thank you so much.

Hello James,
Many thanks for your support. The production of this document was very enjoyable particularly as it is very rewarding to take photographs, as well as play, these superb guitars.
Thankfully all the problems are now over and I hope that our work will be a permanent amd useful resource to all Shadows fans.
Cheers,

Hi Robert,
Thanks for your kind support.
Yes, I can ship a print to Australia for you. Cost would be £17.50 plus £6.50 for postage/packing, a total of £24
I would prefer not to alter the main shop checkout settings, so the best method of dealing with your transaction would be to use PAYPAL. If you send me a personal message, or drop me a line through my website, I shall give you a PAYPAL payment address to which you can send payment and your shipping details.
Cheers,
Ian

Thanks Chris and James for your kind comments. Glad you found the information useful. Credit must also be given to Tony Ramsden who supplied many of the photographs and took on the thankless task of proof reading my copy.
