Hi all, I don't know whether anyone might know the answer to the following questions. Could Hank read musical notation? If not I suppose he must have a natural gift for the guitar and the ability to both play and compose melodies Lastly did he ever learn the guitar from a teacher.
Just interested. Regards to all,
Robert

Hi Robert, As far as I know Hank doesn't read music. I read in one book, probably The Shadows By Themselves, that he started playing guitar at 16. I don't remember reading anything about him taking lessons, as he was probably only 19 when Apache was recorded, I think he must be naturally gifted. Regards, Charlie

Robert

I think I remember Mark Pressling,[Who works on Hank's Strats when he is in the UK] saying he could read a little tablature but not music, and most of his playing was from memory and of course his superb talent. Peter

Hey, there is hope for me yet lol, not too sure about the talent bit mind(for me I mean), think I'll be a pensioner before I get any talent. If I do, I know I'll enjoy getting there!! , especially with all the help I've already had from this forum that I've been a member of for less than a year....
Joking apart, I was quite surprised to hear Hank does'nt read music.
Thanks Guyz

Hi saw this a little late.
Hank Brian Marvin (born Brian Robson Rankin on 28 October 1941) started to play guitar when hi was 16 and and started to work with with Cliff Richard (born Harry Rodger Webb; 14 October 1940) 1958 and released two singles in their own right in 1959 ("Feelin' Fine"/"Don't Be A Fool With Love") and ("Jet Black"/"Driftin'") and in 1960 "Apache"/"Quatremaster's Stores".
Take care.....
Kind Regards, 26rednef
