The more I read the more undecided I seem to get.
I started out with a little Cube amp which was pretty good but moved on to a Vox DA10 which is a great little amp and which I will definitely keep.
I feel I would now like to move up a notch (the DA10 needs a big brother).
I try to read all the amp threads and digest as much as possible but it does get a little confusing. I guess the next jump up would be a Vox AD but some say they are good some say not. So that leads, to my way of thinking, to an AC15.
I've reached the stage in life where this has to be the last one . The Heritage is a bit out of my range, tho' I might just be able to swing it, but some say there is a problem with the EF86 valve. That seems to narrow the choice to AC15CC1 or AC15CC1X. What I would like to know about those two is the price difference. Over here, Canada, there is a 50% increase to get the Alnico Blue speaker! Is it really worth the extra $300??
I should mention that I only play at home and do not have ready access to places to test these amps.
Thanks in advance guys and gals, I appreciate your time and patience.
Ray.

Hi Ray,
I haven't heard for myself the difference between the CC! and CC1X so I can't help you with that.
The EF86 is only used on one channel of the Heritage and while they can be problematic, with noise increase and/or loss of gain as the valve wears out, and usually needing replacement often, the sound is worth it.
If you purchased the CC1(X), you could probably add Roger Allcock's vintage unit (around £100 as far as I know) to it, which would add a complete new EF86 channel. Much cheaper than buying a Heritage and the end results would be much the same. Would probably be easier access to the EF86 valve for replacement too.
Regards,
Charlie

Thanks for your response Charlie. I'm located in Canada so Roger Allcock's unit wouldn't be an option for me. Just for curiosity what is the price of a replacement EF86 in the UK ? (if you know).
If only I had Amanda for a neighbour .
Best regards,
Ray.

Hi Ray,
I believe Roger has supplied fitting instructions to customers who wanted to fit it themselves.
Look here for EF86 prices:
www.watfordvalves.com/home.asp
Prices are between £10 and £48 depending on brand.
6267 is numbering used by some manufacturers for an equivalent. Possibly more likely to find these in your locality.

Charlie

After owning and comprehensively road testing the following Vox amps:
AC30CC1
AC15CC1X
AD50VT
AD60VT
AD120VT
AD100VT
I have now got what I consider to be better than any of them, and am getting THE best clean sound ever from my Fender Custom Vibrolux Reverb - Made in USA. What an amp, what a sound. I still use a Vox DA20CL and a Cambridge15 with blue celestion for recording, but for live use it has got to be the Vibrolux.

Hi Jim
I heard you using your Fender recently and must agree it does produce a good clean sound but only heard you playing 'ballads' what is it like for the more 'gutsy' numbers, I just wonder if it might be 'too' clean if you know what I mean?
Kind regards
Pete
