Was there a particular reason why Hank moved to using a 22 fret Strat rather than one with 21 frets?

Hi Phil, I don't think anyone will know, but my guess could be that as Hank used a Les Paul (which would have had 22 frets) during the Marvin Welch and Farrar days, this might have something to do with it. Regards, Charlie

I read an interview where he says that he prefers necks with a 9.5" radius (compared with the vintage 7.25"). Now, these necks are usually (albeit not always) associated with 22 frets (vs 21, that are the standard in vintage necks). So my guess is that, since he switched to a flatter neck, thought it better to add the benefit of one more fret. And if someone thinks that the 22nd fret is useless, please check the video of "Peggy Sue", where Hank plays all the way to that top D on the first string!
