Hi - I'm new to this so forgive me if I'm asking something inappropriate, but does anyone know how the sound on the intro of Maroc 7 is done? It sounds like some sort of ring modulator reminiscent of wah but more rounded. I've tried to recreate it in lots of different ways, but can never get it spot on.

Hi and welcome, From memory (i.e. this may be wrong!) if it's the very start, it sounds like the use of the volume & tone pedal (a pedal that you rock to change volume and swivel at the same time to sweep the tone) plus lots of reverb.
Hmm, I just listened to a version I found over the web and it didn't sound at all like I remember. Until I can check my original vinyl single I think there must be more than one version?

I deleted my first reply as I now remember I was thinking of Bombay Duck. I have found Maroc 7 on Freddie's site and listened to it. The main effect is a fast echo that gives a double track effect, probably from the first head of a Binson. That would make it a single delay with a time of around 70-80ms. I think the effect at the intro is the same but also with a DeArmond tone pedal sweep from bass to treble. Regards, Charlie
