hi am new to this forum but i looks great with loads of useful info i recently bought a guitar and amp the guitar was terrible and the amp not much better i took the guitar to a local music shop in manchester for them to have a look at it they laughed and said it would cost me about £70 to have a set up and it wasn`t worth it my sister told me about this guy called garry she knew and suggested he have a look at it glad i did he did a great job it now plays great and sounds great and he only charged £30 including strings and parts we got to talking about hank marvin and he gave me loads of useful info and shadows tabs and backing tracks free of charge i wanted to upgrade my equipment to get a better sound the guitar is great now but i wanted echo and decent amp he suggested a zoom g2 and you eftp patches and a small vox pathfinder 10 amp he knows what he is doing i saw him playing and wow he was very nice about everything told me to keep in touch and contact him if i need any help would you agree about getting a zoom g2 and a pathfinder 10 amp he also suggested a few other amps but i like the look of the pathfinder seen it on dolphin music site he also suggested upgrading my cables because they are cheap moulded plastic ones would you agree with him

Hi jablakey, Welcome to the site. The G2 is probably the most cost effective way of getting the echo sounds. It also has amp modelling built in and my program patches use these to vary the sound according to the tune played. I charge £15 for the settings, which have to be input manually to program the different patches. I don't know much about the Pathfinder 10 but seem to remember some people liked one of the Pathfinder models. If 10 means the speaker size, then there may be less bass than would be needed for Hank's later modern sound. Moulded cables are generally not very good, but the most important cable is the one from the guitar. It would make sense to upgrade that one first. Most players go for a 10 foot or 3 metre cable. Regards, Charlie

Hi James, I think the zoom is a great idea with Charlie's patches. With regard to the amp. The vox pathfinder 10 ( £49 from GAK music) is a 10 Watt output amp but the speaker is only 6 inch which would probably give a very thin sound. Perhaps you might like to consider a small Fender amp I know you can get a Frontman 15R which has quite good usable reverb,15 watt output and has a larger speaker for £69 again form GAK music (you can get the amp without reverb for less) I have a small Fender Frontman for practice and with Charlie's patches gives a good clean sound. I don't know where you live but the best bet is to take your guitar into one of the large shops and try a few of the amps out. Although there are good deals on the Internet very often the shops will match the prices and it is usually more convenient if something goes wrong. keep us all posted,
All the best,
Robert

Hi James, welcome to the forum and can I ask who this Garry is? He is in Manchester? If so, I know him too, he sorted my guitar too after I also got quoted £70 and min 2 weeks without guitar, sounds like we both went to the same shop and eventually the same guy!! What is actually wrong with the amp? I may have a spare practise amp somewhere you can have if you are local and maybe some decent cables too. Sounds like my zoom g2 is getting used !! excellent... Regards Karl
