This is an intereting find! I was open minded at first, but after watching it again I think it is him playiong it. There are a couple of bits in there that would be difficult to copy and record on to including the start where he plays a single note, looks across the other side of the stage and goes into Dance On. I am going for him playing. But a cracking find all the same.

I didn't know about this before. To me it looks and sounds like Hank playing (everything matches up syncwise) but without any backing at all. The question is why would he have done that in front of a live audience, unless it was some kind of guitar surgery. Regards, Charlie

Hi Richie,
A nice find, thanks for sharing it. I'm with Tony and think that it is Hank playing solo.
Kind regards,
Chris

Some years ago, and if I remember, its was 2 years after the hank Marvin - Brian Bennet tours, I went to see him at Liverpool. Warren Bennett was on keyboards, when after only 15 minutes they lost all of the PA for approx 10 minutes. Hank after explaining what the issue was, went into a sort of Nivram/Kon Tiki, ? thing while the problem was sorted. This youtube movie is clealry much older and there are no musicians behind him, and I have to agree there must be a very good reason for him to do so.

Hi!
I remember this. The clip is from a Scandinavian music competition sent on TV in the Scandinavia. If I remember right it was sent from Denmark. Hank played some Shadows tunes and the teams was asked about the name of each tune. At the same time I think Hank did a promotion tour regarding his new single "Don“t talk". He played that song at this show.

well to me i honestly dont think its hank playing on his own i think the video has taken from what ever show hank did and someone has just taken out the back ground sound. i meen it seems pointless why hank would be on stage playing with no backing.

Hi Richie, Hank's amp would always be miked. Therefore there would have been some sound spillage from other instruments etc, if any were playing. There is no such spillage whatsoever in this recording. Further to that, his phrasing is such that it would never have fitted with a backing anyway. I have been with Hank playing on his own before (not in public performance) and this is exactly how he plays when there is no backing. The video Just Hank Marvin also features him playing in a similar way when demonstrating his technique. Regards, Charlie
