I thought I'd have a go at this old track from The Shadows first album. I know Hank uses the middle pickup on this but I felt it could be tried with a sweeter tone. Here's my version using pickups 1 and 2. Hope you enjoy it. www.4shared.com/audio/JVpaCoHI/26_Blue_Star.html

Hi Ian,
That was brilliant. Very well played, and the tone and overall sound I thought was better than the original. I enjoyed it very much indeed. If I could just mention that if the BT was just a tad quieter and the lead just a touch louder I think the balance would be perfect. Just my opinion (what do I know...).
Thanks for sharing it.
Kind regards Roger

Hi Ian, Lovely sound and very well played. I felt the backing track was a touch too bassy, with this reduced slightly, the lead guitar should not need raising in the mix. Regards, Charlie

Good morning Charlie and Roger,
Thank you both for your very nice comments. After posting this I must say I was really worried that as I had moved away in tone and phrasing from such a well known original, I would lay myself open to being hit with a big stick. As Hank likened his use of the tremolo arm to a voice, I imagined I would play this as if I was singing it.
Your comment about the bass being too overpowering and that the guitar could come up in the mix is absolutely correct. I must get myself some more experience herein mixing and also get a monitor speaker instead of using my iPod earbuds. Perhaps this is where I'm going wrong.
Thanks for your views which are always a great help and constructive.
Regards Ian

Hi Ian,
A lovely version of Blue Star, I really enjoyed listening to it. It's very well played and has a nice "delicate" tone.
Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards,
Chris
