Hi All,
Does anybody know what Hank's equipment line up was on the Hank Plays Live DVD/CD.
I am trying to play Live and Let Die, but can't seem to get the correct sound on the 2 overdriven parts.
I am using a Zoom 2000 with EFTP and a V-Amp 2, so can get a pretty good sound for the rest of the song, but just can't nail the overdrive sounds.
Many Thanks,
Tim

Hi Tim.
As you would expect, the overdriven sound is a bit different from the Live version to the Heartbeat album it came from. On Heartbeat the overdrive has a phaser effect added, not as prominant with the Live version but it is there.
I was at one of the shows and he was using pedals, unlike his echo setting s which he normally gets his guitar tech to change. He also had a Matchless DC30 miked up.
On the v amp, use the 'Brit class A' and start increasing the gain so the overdriven sound starts to increase a bit at a time. On the effect knob, dial up the phaser and add a bit of that and so on. You need no other effect on the v amp but use the same echo setting for the clean part as a starting point. The overdriven sound he uses is not massive.
Charlie may help you further but the above is a good starting point.

Hi Tim, The guitar needs to go to the V-amp, then to the RFX, not the other way round, since overdrive must come before echo. Just mentioning in case you have it set up wrong, as you did not say which connection order you are using. Regards, Charlie

Having watched the video version some years ago I saw that some things being played did not match what I heard so I think Hank re-recorded most or all of his parts in the studio. Regards, Charlie

Hi Ed, I set the frequencies on one or two but I cannot remember what they were from that alone! Someone said they were Shure. Regards, Charlie

Hi Tim! Hank (and Bruce) use a "Samson AirLine guitar - Wireless System".

Hi Jan, Hank did always use Samson on his solo tours at least since 1997 and possibly for the Shadows tours of 2004. For the last tours I am sure they were something else because I saw all the new ones being unpacked from the boxes, I don't think they were Samson. Regards, Charlie

Hi all.
Would not be dead certain but on the last tour I think ?? the wireless systems used were either Sennheiser or Shure as both are top of the range gear. I did notice the back packs on the guitar straps in the DVD of the show, so my guess it would be one or the other.
Regards John
