A couple of weeks ago during a short break I found a used '57 US reissue 50th anniversary strat. An incredibly light guitar (7 lbs) with such an acoustically vibrant ash body. After a moment's madness it was in the car and on its way to a new home. This is a first recording with it of a simple theme tune from that famous Gary Cooper film. I hope you enjoy it. Tonelab ST direct into Fostex MRhd 8 track Quad Plus with Charlie's patches Backing track Renato Vignocchi www.4shared.com/audio/WnuPblgR/03_Shane.html

Hi Macnik.
This is the first ever film I ever saw at a cinima when i was a young lad. I remember running down the street after the film pretending to shoot folk with my fingers. Great playing and great tone which fitted in well. I enjoyed the trip down memory lane listening to your tune. What programme did you use on the quad?

Hello to Telstars (Tony) , Charlie and Tony,
Thank you for listening and your coments, very much appreciated. You're right Tony, momentary memory loss, it was Alan Ladd and what a great film.
Tony the patch I used was the one Charlie recommends for the Quad+ which is patch 84. I tend to stick faithfully to Charlie's list as I don't have much knowledge on the Quad programming and am always pleased with the presets, and especially the eq set by Charlie.
This is my first strat with a maple neck and is a lot different to the rosewood neck I've been used to. However the soft V neck is very comfortable for my small arthritic hands. I've noticed some tonal difference and had to adjust the eq slightly on my Tonelab.
All in all this is the nicest strat I've ever played and with its see thru' off white ash body and gold fittings looks very attractive.
Cheers Ian

Hi Ian,
Very nicely played, with that tone that I have been searching for.......well done. A lovely sound.
I assume that it was played on the middle pickup?
Kind regards Roger

Hi Roger and Robert
Thanks for your nice comments, which is encouraging to keep us retired (from gigging) folk to keep on playing. Roger I used the middle pickup for most of the tune except for the middle bass part where I switched to the treble one.
Robert unfortunately the guitar isn't up for sale yet, maybe in 50 years time when prices hit the sky LOL.
Regards Ian

Hi Ian, Can I ask what were your TonelabST settings as I have one and would like to create that same sort of clear sound - I assume the Quad was first in the chain of events, ie Quad into Tonelab into Fostex ?
Cheers, Martyn

Hi Ian, I have always liked that Shadows number. I have never seen the film though. You played it well I thought with the muted notes sounding loud and clear. The new guitar sounds good too. Congratulations on an excellent sound file and upon your new acquisition. Well done with a most enjoyable post. Regards, Len

Hi Martyn
Yes the chain is as you stated, Quad into Tonelabthen into Fostex.and as soon as I can get access to my gear in the bedroom I'll note the settings and PM you later. I hope you get the sound you're looking for. I think it's a great piece of kit for those who haven't got an AC15/30 or just want to cut down on space.
All the best Ian

Hi Len,
Thank you for your supportive words about my version of Shane, and I'm really enjoying the "new" guitar, which is the first strat I've played with a maple neck.
I don't have the time to watch many films, but this is one that I would see again and again. A real classic with a poignant story line.
Regards Ian

Hi Ian, Really good sound and soundfile with a great crisp tone. I noticed one of your others you used a pod pro, I have pod pro but it does'nt sound anywhere near as clean as this sound file with the tonelab, I always have difficulty with the pod tryng to get a clean sound with the Vox simulations. Do you have any comments on the comparison I would be most interested. Tony

Hi Ian, Thanks for the offer re the pod settings but after my post and purely coincidentally I have parted with it today by sheer frustration, can't seem to get on too well with amp sims at times no doubt pilot error, however your sound from the Tonelab is very good. Your sound files a also very good. Cheers and thanks mate, Tony

Hi Tony
Sorry to hear you couldn't get on with the Pod and have sold it. My PodPro is the mk1 version which I've had from when they first came out some years ago. With it linked to my laptop I found I had more accurate control over the tones. A very good unit still today.
Thanks for you nice comments about my tones and sound files. I hope you replace the Pod with something you're happier with.
Regards Ian
