I have listened in depth to early recordings and come to the conclusion that up until Wonderful Land and excluding Apache, the Shads has a very raunchy dry sound without a prominent echo as we all try to produce, take for instance Geronimo and Theme For Young Lovers, have a listen to the examples and see what I mean.... later days, a lot of echo early days not so much www.box.net/shared/jvnbrslc7gRegards Tony

Hi Tony Very interesting theory But personally I disagree with what you are suggesting The shadows had a lot of what we termed in those days ECHO
Just listen to the early recordings Apache ,Frightened City The Stranger, Man Of Mystery Peace Pipe Mustang, Theme From Shane The list goes on and on and all loaded with echo I agree that Geronimo has a dry sound but by that stage The Shadows had a variety of echo sounds and I beleive the drier Shadows sound coincided with their introduction of the Burns Guitars and THE magic of that early Shadows sound dissapated a little at that point Any how its all about our own opinions and what we hear as individuals Regards John44

I don't hear any echo on Theme From Shane but there is plenty of studio reverb. I think Tony's perception of less echo is because of the Echomatic 1 (as we call it) where its effect was used sparingly on some tunes such as Back Home. Regards, Charlie

Chaps, I believe Echo should be used sparingly, bit like Ralgex. Use too much and you will get Burns. ;D Sorry Soppy mood today George.
