Thank you for the people who responded to my earlier questions and they have been a great help to me. What I now want to know is
Do these patches relate to specific songs?
e.g. Apache or Wonderful Land.
Are there alot of them and can you also get them for more songs. Are they part of a library of patches that you can keep adding too?
Cheers Roger

Hi Roger, My patches (which are specifically written for each unit type) are designed so that they form a fairly complete set that does not require adding to. Indeed, there is a patch suitable for almost any Shadows tune and can be used for other tunes that require an echo sound too, except where additional special effects were used on the original tune. A tune/patch list is supplied as a minimum, for some units there are also settings sheets that refer directly to many of the backing track CDs that are available. I usually avoid naming the patches for specific tunes because some of the patches are suitable for more than one tune. Instead I use a name that relates to the echo unit used in most cases. For example Wonderful Land would use a patch called EMTC 2 4, which means Echomatic 2 setting 4. Some patches are reverb rather than echo, which will suit many tunes where no echo was used. The number of patches varies with the unit type they were written for. The least number of patches of any of my sets is 29 for the older Zoom models G2 and G2.1u. Regards, Charlie

Hi all I am new to the site and like so many seeking "the sound" My gear is a 2005 American Strat, a ZoomRFX 2000 with EFTP and into a Vox 15AC Heratage Amp. I have only been playing guitar for two years, getting lots of real pleasure from it. Wish I had picked it up years ago. My question for help is, can I improve My sound by changing the Zoom to say an Alesis Q2 or PSP608 unit Thanks in anticipation Bill

Hi Bill, Welcome to the site. You can improve the sound you have by using an additional buffer amp between the guitar and the RFX. A suitable buffer amp could be a Boss overdrive or compressor pedal or similar, and will present a much better impedance match to the guitar than the RFX input will. You would probably use the RFX L rear input with that setup. You don't have to use the effect in the additional pedal but it is there if needed. The PSP608 is a software plugin effect only, as far as I know. Regards, Charlie

Hi Bill Alesis Q2's come at a price if you can find one. I don't know much about PSP608 and believe that it is VST plug in software. I don't know of any guys that use it. To be honest I think your set-up is good as it is. maybe concider a preamp between the guitar and the Zoom. George.

Many thanks Charlie & George, what quick response? Sorry but I should have given you more info.I have a Roland20-1 twin pedal and a Boss Compression pedal also a Boss Distortion pedal the latter two only used uncertain numbers. I didn't realise these would influence theZoom so much. Should I remove any or set them up differently ? Thanks for helping a 71 year old rocker. I saw the Shads with Cliff way back in the 60s And again last year, playing better than ever.

Hi Bill, If you are already using pedals you don't need to do anything, except use the rear L input instead if you are using the mic input at the moment and if so, you will need to turn the input gain level of the RFX much higher to get the same gain level as before. Regards, Charlie

Hi Charlie, no posts for quite along time because I have been reasonably happy with my sound which is, in order: 62 strat, g2 with EFTP, Tonelab using only the treble boost and AC30 TB but through Roger Allcock's EF86 add on. A number of people have approached me and said that, with eyes closed, they might be listening to Hank marvin circa 1960 so I must be getting something right! However, I have just borrowed with a view to purchase, an RFX 2000 with EFTP and some of the echoes I have tried over the last 2 days are noticeably superior to the G2. The guitar is plugged into the mic input as you suggest. However, there is a slight degradation in tone from the lower strings in comparison to the G2.That is, it is not as "sharp". On bypass it is still there, in comparison with the guitar direct into the amp, which is surprising. The same thing, only worse, used to happen many years ago with my Copycat and also with a cheap treble boost I had. My 2 questions are 1. (And I am sorry for showing almost complete ignorance), do the EFTP patches for the RFX include FX amp settings as they do for the G2 and so is the sound being modified otherwise than by the echo settings? (I have only installed the echoes on the G2.) If so, can the amp settings be got rid of? I was not given a manual for the unit. And 2. Surely the bypass tone should be identical to the direct into amp tone and is there anything you can suggest to make this better, other than perhaps to put the Tonelab first in the chain. I should say that with the G2 on bypass (and also with echoes on), there is no alteration to the tone.
many thanks in advance for your thoughts,
Franz

Hi Franz, The RFX-2000 is really a studio unit and has an input impedance that is too low for a guitar and this is why treble is lost. It can be restored by connecting an active device like a compressor or overdrive pedal (with the effect turned off unless needed) between the guitar and the RFX input. It is best to use the RFX rear L input when this is done, and the input gain control has to be set much higher. The RFX units do not have amp modelling. Regards, Charlie

Hi Sandra, Welcome to the site. I have checked through all my records and have not been able to find that serial number. However, I have a feeling that I have been asked to check that number before. Loss of all User program patches is almost certainly a sign of the memory back up battery failing. Regards, Charlie

Hi there Charlie, Greetings from New Zealand in mid winter, I have a Q2 with EFTP Serial # 025501330 and purchased the patches some 10 plus years ago.Not having used the unit for a while and upon firing it up, I was surprised to find no echo from patch 00 EMTC 1-1,(Apache) when I looked further I discovered Blocks 7 and 8 missing ( I presume they were there. ) Anyway, the routings are still there and everthing elase in that patch appears correct and as well several of the other patches are fine. The Alesis is controlled from a Digitech Legend and Foot Controller programed with several Shadows tunes. Perhaps the internal battery is getting tired. From memory, my unit has a version 1 chip and should have been a version 2, however when I purchased these, I downloaded and installed them and the unit has been fine over the years with no problems and I love it, Perhaps even if you were to send me a diagram of the blocks, I may be able to enter the missing blocks myself. Please help, my e-mail is akoorie@xtra.co.nz Cheers - Trevor Akoorie NZ (aka) wrangler

Hi Trevor, The simplest solution would be to just re-install all the patches again and see how it goes. The Q2 should have version 2.00 or 2.01 software for the patches to work as intended. It is possible that your early version Q2 is corrupting patches. If it has not been modified it could be done but I don't have detailed instructions to do that. Regards, Charlie

Hi Charlie, I am interested in purchasing Halls Echo Patches for my Zoom G5. I have never heard any demonstrations on a G5 only a G3 and wondered if there is any difference in sound reproduction. I have watched a video online and the sound is exactly what I'm looking for but through a Zoom G3. Gary

Would really appreciate if someone could send the zoom G3 amp simulator settings ONLY for the Vox amp and the Fender twin reverb only? I find the vox amp more powerful than the fender twin reverb amp hence both amp will have different settings . please help.

Help! I want to get 'The Shadows Tone' and have only been aware of the Halls & Collins EFTP unit which I now know is no longer sold. My current set-up is a MIJ Fender Stratocaster with Kinman Impersonater 54 V3 noiseless pickups, a Boss GT-1000 Multi-FX unit, and Vox AC30 combo. I did download some patches online from an outside source (Boss don't have them yet), but they are really not nailing it. I know that the Boss GT-1000 does not have EFTP so I'm in a bit of a dilemma. Can you kindly advise what my best solution might be ?

You will need to send a message to Charlie asking him the same question, you will also need to include the serial number of the Q2 in the message. He should then be able to confirm as to whether they`re genuine or not. Regards Adrian
