Hi Guys,
A few questions:
I would like to know a little bit more info on Hanks Strat/Guitars, does he still own the original guitar that Cliff ordered for him from the States?
Also ive read this was the first Stratocaster in the UK...is that correct?
What Strat does he use now? is it a Deluxe model?
Has he always used a maple neck?
Why did he re-design the tremolo bar he uses was it just for comfort?
When did he first use Kinman pickups in his Strat, and what others has he used?
and what is the actual colour of Hanks Strat ive heard some say, Fiesta Red, others Salmon Pink...and Dakota Red?..and has Hank used any other colours?
Sorry for the rambling questions...i know they must have been asked a thousand times.
Cheers

Hi Guys, A few questions: I would like to know a little bit more info on Hanks Strat/Guitars, does he still own the original guitar that Cliff ordered for him from the States? Bruce Welch owns it. It belonged to Cliff Richard who painted it white. Welch says Cliff gave it to him and he had it painted red again, but Cliff says he loaned it to him. But it looks like Welch ain't going to let it go ;D
Also ive read this was the first Stratocaster in the UK...is that correct? Everyone says it was due to the import ban at the time. What Strat does he use now? is it a Deluxe model?
Signature custom shop strats now with Kinman PUPS. Has he always used a maple neck? Not always, but more common is maple. Why did he re-design the tremolo bar he uses was it just for comfort? Ease of muting and not having to move the arm back and too. Not sure if he designed it or someone else did it for him though. When did he first use Kinman pickups in his Strat, and what others has he used? Before Kinmans it was seymour duncan, middle and neck and dimarzio in the bridge position. The change took place around 1997 with the release of the Andrew Lloyd Webber album and in time for the 40th anniversary strat which was fitted with Kinmans.and what is the actual colour of Hanks Strat ive heard some say, Fiesta Red, others Salmon Pink...and Dakota Red?..and has Hank used any other colours? The correct colour is fiesta red with some tainted history where the salmon pink colour name came from. I am sure I will be corrected here! Sorry for the rambling questions...i know they must have been asked a thousand times. Millions of times to be exact ;D Cheers

Hank's first Strat that was bought for him by Cliff wasn't Fiesta Red, it was a darker and somewhat brighter colour that Hank called Flamingo Pink, although I have never seen reference to that name in any of Fender's colour charts. Regards, Charlie

Hi Tonybiker
You have asked some interesting questions and there have been some good replies which I think are pretty accurate.
As for did Hank have the first Strat in the UK is in my opinion a little difficult to quantify as Chas MacDevit claims he had the first Strat [ A sunburst Buddie Holly type] which he also claimed to have purchased in the States and brought back. Shirley Douglas who was part of the MacDdevit duo played a Fender Precision base which again was claimed to be the first Fender bass in the UK. Of course I could be wrong but it would be nice to know one way or the other.
Hank referred to his first Strat as more pink than his current models and thats all I know.
I heard that Hank has changed over to Fender Custom shop 54,'s on a couple of his Strats, but I have no details such as dates etc.
