Hi Chloe! Great version of Apache and I liked the tone you were using. Am sure Hank would approve of this one. It was one of the first Shadows tunes I learnt when I picked up the guitar and it's always a lot of fun to play. Thanks for sharing this one Kind Regards Chris

Hi Chloe, Very well played with a good sound. At around 2:11 to 2:12 where you play the open G and the A notes, the two A notes should both be Ab (or G#), ie. on the first fret instead of the second fret. Regards, Charlie

Hi Charlie
I thought I would introduce myself through Chloe's logon. My name is Val Starr and I am Chloes grandfather otherwise know as Pop or Poppa. Because Chloe calls me Pop a few members think I am her dad and understandably so as Pop can mean the same. However the main reason for the post is that I wish to thank you and all the friends that have commented on Chloes performances it gives her a great boost and her 15minutes of fame she so righfully deserves as she tries hard. Although she has a long way to go she is only young and has the ability helped by my years of performing in bands and being able to teach her.
Charlie you taught me something, when Chloe asked me about the Ab aka G# in Apache I was surprised that all these years I didnt even take any notice of the fact that I had been playing the 'A' instead. I first learnt the tune in 1961 by listening to the record (as I do now) and took it for granted. As I said to Chloe you never stop learning even at my 65 yrs of age. You have some great players on the site and thank you for the enjoyment. Val Starr

Hi Val, Thanks for your message. I started playing when I was 11 (I am 61 now) and I can remember what it feels like to be a young player. I picked up the guitar and learned by watching others play and by working out the tunes from the records. After about 6 months I was playing quite well. I always seemed to have a good ear for the notes and chords which helped me a lot. Older people always seemed to pay a lot of attention even though I was always striving to be better at what I could do, within the limitations of the equipment I could afford at the time. I get tremendous enjoyment from trying to help others to improve their playing skills and sound. My ear for sound was always pretty good, but it is comparatively recent (about 20 years or so) that I started learning to train my ears and to learn more about the technical side of things to arrive at most of what I know now about sound. In fact, I spent more time in the earlier days trying to sound like I wanted to sound than by practising playing. It took me a long time to realise that the style of playing also has an incredible amount to do with the sound, but also that it is always limited by the equipment too, and not necessarily by the purchase price either. It looks to me like Chloe has a massive head start in that area compared with what I managed at her age. She is very lucky to have you as a teacher. Regards, Charlie

Well done Chloe - and to you too "Pop". My new grand-daughter (3 months old) is also called Chloe and I wish she will grow up to play as well as you do. It is good to hear music played well AND also have the correct sense of timing too. Many young players can play the tune but have no FEEL for the music. You do!!. Apache was the first piece I learned was back in 1961 and it makes me smile to think of how poorly I played it compared to your excellent standard. Well Done! cheers Ian

I have heard players play A to G instead of G# where Charlie mentioned it. However It is definitely G# to G the G# comes from the Harmonic Minor scale - at this point it modulates between Natural Minor (G) and Harmonic Minor (G#) giving that mysterious sound. Apache is in A minor. The Tab and Chords are available free on Gorans site goran.tangring.com/George

Hi Chloe I'm just catching up with your great Shadows videos as sometimes I forget to look in this section of Sound Files.
Your playing and sound are very impressive and you've mastered techniques e.g. the gallop in Apache that I still struggle with.
I notice you seem equally comfortable with different guitars which also shows how confident you are as a player.
Very well done! and look forward to hearing more of your tunes.
Best wishes Rosemary
