HI BRIAN ,,NO I don't use one ,but peter-korving does & many other's I think they must be good but expensive? I have as you know a desk-top tone-lab & I think it good but is much larger phisically.. CAN you tell me what you thought of the ''gemini-111'' as they also are supposed to ,give that vintage-type sound,I was watching it on the well known auction site but post ,exchange etc made it a bit costly for me as a trial piece.... cheer's brian UK,, from ''OZ- barry..

NO WORRIES , I would'nt have done that anyway ,but ''what did you think of it'' for sound It is supposed to take the brighness from the top string's & leave the lowwer register alone ? ,I find it a bit hard to tame the top e high in the fret board if you reduce with normal tone control's it dulls the lower string'sas well , ? cheer's brian......... barry..

Barry, I am very hard to please as far as guitar tone goes, it seems to me that I will NEVER get what is in my head, maybe i'm stupid or summat, and quite possibly the reason I didn't stick with it is in my head, there's loads of room in my head these days. I replaced it with a Blackstar HT Dual, and I am feelin that it's days are numbered as well LOL. I have to say that the only thing that has impressed me as far as pedals go is my Magicstomp with Charlies EFTP and my Alesis nanocompressor. Another slight problem for me is that we ( our combo ) does a variety of song types, ranging from shadows stuff, country and blues, and I like to be able to hit a button to change tones, just as in Magicstomp you can hit button to change effect. cheers Brian

I have been experimenting lately with adding distortion to the clean guitar sound. The basic idea is to have an overdrive mixed with a clean sound in parallel. The mix level of the distorted part would be set quite low. It adds a very interesting flavour to clean sounds. I have been doing this with a plug in whilst mixing tracks. The end result is a smoother sound with lower spikes and a more complex tone. Regards, Charlie

Hi Brian, Unfortunately not. I don't think this effect is a normal available one in an effects unit but the old Digitech RP21D did have the ability to mix clean and dirty sounds. It is a more unusual facility. I first knew of it with a Fender Blender pedal from the 60's. I built my own clone and didn't like the distortion effect on its own (it had a slight octave doubling effect) so I modified it so it could be switchable to a more conventional overdrive. It sounds very good for live playing, possibly a bit too dirty for anything else as a clean sound. The effect I was referring to originally is from a free Plug in called SPICE which I use in Sonar 2, there are 2 different plugins from the same people and #1 is my favourite. I just turn the distortion to maximum and set the mix level to around 70 - 90% clean. SPICE is actually a name given to computer simulation of electronic circuits, in the case of these plug ins it is a simulation of a valve sound. Regards, Charlie

I have the rack mount POD XT PRO and until the next generation of POD's is better, then I will keep this forever.
99.9% of my posts here and SMCP are done with the POD.
PS: I think my neighbors are more grateful for it than I am.

Brian, Is it possible to post or email me a sound file so I can hear the tones you are getting now? A simple recording of the guitar through the amp, no effects, close miked at the grill with the mic pointing to around midway between the middle of one speaker cone and the edge of the same cone, maybe a short section with each of the pickups. No fancy playing, just a few simple lead lines and chords. The better the microphone, the more accurate the sound I will hear at this end. A good sounding Strat through a half decent amp, set so it is as warm as possible without losing clarity should be getting to sound reasonably close to Hank when echo is added. After that, it is more or less down to how much bass you set for different tracks. Regards, Charlie

HI BRIAN &CHARLIE,MIKE & ALL, This is a very interesting subject ,''marcelo's'' waa pedal idea give's an interesting sound to my guitar sound I have been trying it & it does something quite amazing ,,In the tone-lab you can use waa that is controlled by 2 knobs with no pedal connected [as I don't have the vox pedal board] ,but using the ac15 amp sim&ac15 cab & the switch to waa 2 of the 3 control pots change the tone dramatically,ie fiddle with the waa controls until you get close to a particular sound & then with the 4 eq controls & i am surprised at the result..& then store that & you can then fiddle further etc etc ... I am a rank-amature at this stuff & rely on my ear's only & should be ''shot''for not finishing my amp project ''b****y slack instead of experimenting with these things as I am using solid state amp's at the moment.. brian peter korving also uses up front of his m/stomp a boss eq20 a 2 pedal ''expensive'' [down here at least] pedal,Its a programable unit!!!!!!!!!!.. I mention peter a lot as he has such a good sound ,listen to his ''atlantis''etc etc,,& he has tried many didgi echo units, but prefers the m/stomp.. well get that sound file to charlie & he will give you ''help''that for sure .. WELL GUY's this is an ongoing subject that's for sure who would have thought it would be so hard? CHEERS TO ''ALL'' ..............................barry..

UK Brian,
The only reason to buy a POD is really for the amp simulations, and these are superb, the multitude of effects are there if you want them, I rarely use the available effects in the pod as I have sufficient outboard and software effects.
If you really want a "pedal" type of tone sim the "Floor Pod" should be worth a look at.
I prefer rack-mount as the number of different connections ie: spdif balanced/unbalanced etc are available.
Others speak highly of the Vox Tonelab lite.
Cheers

Mike : Tell me, your "wonderful land" was that recorded with the pod + m,stomp? or what ? you have a nice "old shads" sound to my ears,
Alan : Are all your pieces recorded using your tone lab and or do you use any other effects boxes/pedals as well

Regards, Charlie HI CHARLIE, I HAVE JUST RE READ THIS ABOVE THREAD OF YOUR'S QUITE INTERESTING ,I WILL HAVE A PLAY AROUND ALONG THOSE LINES , I FIND SAY IN THE OPENING FEW NOTES ON WONDERFULL LAND HARD TO GET THAT ''BELL-LIKE FULLER TONE'' WITHOUT LOSING THE BRIGHTNESS OF THE LOWER STRING'S [IF THAT MAKES SENSE TO YOU] , ALLMOST FEEL AS IF IT NEEDS A MUCH THICKER TOP 2 STRINGS? AN ONGOING ISSUE I GUESS TO MANY OF US... CHEERS............................BARRY..

Hi Barry, The cut control on the AC30 is used to control the brightness of high notes without affecting the lower notes too much. It is more difficult to control on other amps unless they have a similar control. I guess you have seen the circuit of how it works. Regards, Charlie
