hi barry ecca is right the weather in the south is normaly a lot warmer than midlands and it gets colder the further north you go. i was in austrailer melbourne in the 80`s and remember someone telling me about how hot it got when the north wind blows, and boy it was like an hair drier had been switched on. its the opposite here a frezzing chill. today its frezzing were i live ground lightly frozen over. but we are made of tough stuff here in the south of england. how does the heat effect the wood on your guitars over there, do the necks move much? peter

HI ECCA&PETER ,,, well we do get frosts in the winter here in the mid-north of ''SA'' ,BUT I did not mention the heatwaves we have ,I don't know what would be worse the extreme heat or you freezing weather, YOU must have huge heating ''bill's'' to pay? .. As for guitar wood as they are inside the house I don't notice any thing I would think the tropic's would play havoc because of the humidity ,,,peter,, melbourne is a much colder wetter state than sth-aust.. we are having a most mild christmas as usually it's stinking-hot but its been 24-30c most day's CHEERS & BEERS guy's have a good ''09''..............barry..

hi barry it was the humidity i was thinking of just coudnt think what it was called ( having a senior moment). as for heating bills its all just gone up over here so we are expecting some big ones this year. reguards guitar wood moving, because of central heating you have to be a bit carefull it does tend to dry the wood out a bit. i had one crack at the joint once my own fault. it was a cheap one and did not effect the playing of it,. but lesson learned i keep a couple hanging in my room where there is little heat, or put them in there cases when not being used for a while. peter

Well Guy's, Today in Toronto it's quite balmy, -3c with a wind chill of -10c, now tomorrow they promise a -10 during the day and -15c for the evening new years party at Nathan Philips square downtown Toronto, where quite a number of acts will be performing with heaters blasting away behind them. Yesterday and the day before we had between 85km and 100km per hour winds which I guess were blowing in the cold weather while ripping chunks of my house. So chap's, don't moan about how cold it is because soon we will be down in the -20c range again and that will last until at least the end of Feb.....feeling warmer now are we :-)) But as my old dad used to say " There's no weather in pubs" All the best Steve.

Ahaaaa dont we all feel sorry for old Barry there in Oz, i mean all that heat to contend with ( [glow=red,2,300]luvly[/glow] ) yeah Barry there will be a hot time in the club tonight, mind you with my illness of late I havn't touched the guitar for 3 days now :-( had no inclination, hope I still remember how to do it normally before a gig like this ( about 3 hours work ) we run thro stuff, personally I prefer the 1 or 2 spot gigs of 1/2 hour each, more drinkin time ;D ;D ;D Hope you had a good new year ( cos yours has gone now ) and didn't get too drank ;D May I wish a great new year to all friends on the forum here, and may 2009 bring us all we wish for, cheers all Brian

We've got -20 today in Montreal with wind chills of -31 forcast overnight and it hasn't even started to get cold yet!!
Minus 30 in the winter with ten feet of snow and plus 35 and humid in the summer.
If you could experience wind chills of -45 to -50 it would really give you some idea of what the folks went through that settled this country....................they had nothing!!!!
What a tough bunch they must have been, absolutely remarkable.
Ray.

Yeah right on Barry, I think us lot " the oldies at any rate" will all have donw some "hard yards" I can remember the group in the 50's 60's goin round in the van with a little parrafin stove in the front footwell to try and give some sort of heat so we could do a bit of practice on the way to gig's gawd, it was a bl***y cold time when the trees stayed sparkling white for weeks on end, no bugs tho' no colds flu an all that stuff. Well I guess the revellin is over now and we can all get back to normal. Cheers to everyone on here Brian

Yes guys you are right. I guess old timers like us have all paid our dues. I remember coming to Canada in November 1957 from Hampshire. I was 11 years old and we had no idea what was in store for us. That year was one of the coldest on record, we had temperatures of -35 and -40 ...........what a shock. To earn a bit of money I used to go out shoveling peoples driveways and paths and I used to wear "wellies" of all things, because that was what I was used to wearing back home. So to try and keep my feet warm I would wrap them in newspaper and then put my "wellies" on. Strange to say I kind of miss those days everything was so much simpler then. Anyway I still shovel snow, keeps me fit. I've got my "Strat" and a nice warm house.........I'VE GOT IT MADE!!!! Ray. ;D
