Finally took the plunge & bought a 6118T Gretsch last night ;D ;D ;D Not cheap...but well worth the price as it came with the case & all the "tags" & docs. Still in the honeymoon phase of looking & touching but will be able to give it a good workout tonight ;D I'll upload a couple of pics later Good though my Peerless was it now looks very ordinary against the Gretsch....... suppose I'm a "headstock snob" now Cheers Dick.

regardnce got there there is no way back, this is real instruments and even our Hank liked them but the way things had moved he had to stay with the Start sound he say in the radio interview regarding his Gretsch CG.
I have build a PRS Hollow II - clone and it is just a fantastic instrument and now I have started a new project to build a PRS SCJ-Thinline/JA15-clone.
One question on your guitar, is that model equipped with trestle bracing system ?
Kind Regards, 26rednef

''WOW'' Now that nice mate and I am so pleased for you ''The-Real-Thing'' ,this will give you such enjoyment as you ''Pick'' those Duanne-eddy notes that you love so much .. THE ''Toy-Fund'' yes I have the same situation here mate ,but always manage to do some work in my W/shop to help-out & maybe sell-off some gear I have bought & tried-out etc,etc.. I myself are trying to sort-out my gear & reduce the not needed units & just keep my favorite gear.. when I first revisited this Guitar-Echo-hobby 5-6 years ago , I had sold off my earlier hobby gear ,ie, my dirtcircuit racing car, my ham-radio gear to finance some echo-units M/stomp x2, Q2's x2, 2x zoom units , etc,etc ,but now i have sold all these & only kept 2x q+'s 1xQ-Gt -Efpt & a few cheap pedals ,& put that money towards Electronic parts for my tape echo builds & the 2x valve amps . i think I had to go through this process to determine my likes & dislikes ,my only misgiving was selling my Q2 EFPT-79-09 as this in my opinion is the best so far in the digital echo-unit range..but thought as I did get a great price for it while they were still in demand .. I am slowly working towards using my own made gear [not-guitars] but amp & echo gear..
So Dick you will now treasure this ''GRETSCH'' , & as I said before ''WHY-NOT-NOW'' as in earlia years we just could not afford to do so .. GREAT-STUFF-MATE ,,, barry..

Hi Dick, Congratulations on the new Gretsch. ;D I recently bought a G6136 from "Rocky's Street Sounds" in New York - even with the freight from USA to Australia, it was still much cheaper than buying one locally. There are some sounds you can only get from a Gretsch, I reckon. I love the sound of chords - it's easy to get a great 60's rhythm guitar sound. So many players used them. How do you find that "Space Control" roller Bridge? Mine has the "Synchro-Sonic" bridge, which looks and sounds great, but completely prohibits palm muting! I'm going to swap it, (which is easily done on a Gretsch), but can't decide whether to get The "Space Control" or "Adjust-O-Matic" bridge. Cheers, John

Thanks Barry I'm really pleased with the Gretsch ;D Hi Clive Sound file to come when bridge & strings are replaced Hi John The Standard bridge is good, but I'm replacing it with a Compton bridge www.comptonbridges.com/ really good bridges, there seems to be a waiting list at the moment though. Completly agree with you about the Gretsch "sound" it is rather special isn't it. The 6136 series are nice guitars...which one is yours White/Black?silver ? Hi Peter The "Electromatic" range are decent guitars, much the same differences as Fender USA/Squire & Gibson/Epiphone (there just might be a Peerless guitar for sale that is better than any of the 5120 series Chinese made Electromatics. PM if you want more info ) Cheers Dick

Hi Barry, Thanks. I must get that scone recipe from you one day - they looked amazing in your earlier thread. ;D how did the camper handle all the kilometers in your recent trip? Hi scott, Thanks for the tip on the Compton bridge. I had earlier looked at a "bar" type bridge, but was worried about the possibility of intonation problems, without individual string adjustment. After going back to the Gretsch forum, however, and reading all the comments about the Compton, it seems that the compensation for intonation works brilliantly, so i think I will try one - probably the brass version to go with the Gold hardware of the guitar. Hi Dick, Looks like you are also sold on the Compton for your G6118 ;D. Which one are you going to get? The great thing about the floating bridge on these models is that it is so easy to change. You can just keep the original and then if the guitar were to be sold, it can be made original, if required. I think It's unlikely that I will ever sell this guitar, though It is the G6136TLDS which is The White Falcon model that has Dynasonic pickups, and aged white Nitrocellulose lacquer. Here is a link to the product page on the Gretsch website. gretschguitars.com/products/index.php?partno=2401414805Really this photo does not do the guitar justice. The lacquer looks and feels like porcelain, and the inlays and general workmanship are faultless. I love the sound of the (single coil) Dynasonics also - powerful and twangy!, just a little bit different to the Filtertronics on my G6120, which I also love!........ Cheers, JC

Hi John I've gone for this bridge ..... www.comptonbridges.com/aluminumbridgesI'm really getting into that "Gretsch Sound" now ;D ;D Suppose you would have to use the "brass" bridge if you want to match in with the fittings on your Falcon visually Also been thinking of a brass nut for the 6118..... not to sure of the benefits but cheap enough from here..... www.the well known auction site.co.uk/itm/350485941005?ssPageName=STRK Cheers Dick.

Hi Paul They are the "original" Filtertrons as used in the 6120's from the 50/60's. So could indeed be called stock Gretsch pickups I suppose Thanks for your interest Cheers Dick.
