I have a 12 year old Pacifica 112 with s/s/h pick ups mounted on the scratch plate. Ideally I would like to fit a single coil pick up in the bridge position instead of the humbucker, but obviously the fitted scratch plate has a larger humbucker-sized hole. Does anyone know of either
1. a replacement s/s/s scratch plate that fits a Pacifica, or 2. any other scratch plate (Fender, Squier, .......) that could easily be modified?
Thanks for any help you can give. Paul

Hi You may be able to coil tap the HB pickup with a switch or a push pull tone pot. Best of both worlds then !! George.

Thank you George. But would a coil tapped humbucker ever sound as good as a decent single coil? Paul

Paul The honest answer is I don't know !! I have my Pacifica coiled tapped and had to have a different HB fitted to do it (Kent Armstrong) The HB sounds great and the Bridge Single coil when tapped sounds like a telecaster. However I am having a further mod done. Whereby the single coil part of the HB will be the part closest to the neck at the moment its the bridge side and has a bit too much bite, hence the Telecaster sound. Putting it around the other way should mellow it out nicely for a Strat Sound. I have Strats and wanted the Pacifica to be more versatile with the HB and a Coil Tap. Like the new Pacifiac's out now. Almost there with it. George. Thank you George. But would a coil tapped humbucker ever sound as good as a decent single coil? Paul

Hi Paul, I had a set of single coil Toneriders fitted to my Yamaha Pacifica 112v and what I did was take out the humberbucker plate and use it as a pattern.I then got a piece of plastic the same thickness as the scratchplate and cut it to size I then cut out for the pickup at an angle. You can buy adapter plates already made' . Heres a link that might help. www.tdpri.com/forum/tele-technical/103832-slanted-single-coil-hb-adapter-ring.html. Kind regards David

Hi David, Thank you for that suggestion. What did you use to cut the blank scratch plate? Did you achieve a neat edge? Paul

Hi Paul, Another option would be a "Pseudo P90". This is the famous Gibson single-coil, but slightly reshaped to fit in a Humbucker package. Quite a few manufacturers make them (e.g. the BareKnuckle Mississippi Queen): www.enotes.com/topic/P-90Regards DaveC

Hi Paul, I used a junior hacksaw to cut the main shape and then for the part where the pickup goes I drilled a series of holes and then cut through the holes with a stanley knife. I then finished it off with a half round file and then with a fine grade of wet and dry.I could have bought one ready made but because most of them are made for Fender I was'nt sure if the screw holes would line up.I must say the Pacifica is a lovely guitar. It stays in tune is very well made. You can pick them up for around £70 second hand.I dont use it for recording as I fitted my Mexican Strat with 57/62's. Kind regards David
