Hi folks, here's one for the programming guru's out there. Just bought another Q20 of E-bay and would like to copy all my patches to the new Q20. I don't want to go through the process of editing them all maually one at a time again. I bought the Edirol UM-1EX and tnx to Charlie's help i downloaded the Stec software "dumping tool " program. I'm not confident enough that i can download from the Q20 to the computer and would like to know the procedure of copying from one Q20 to the other. In the Q20 manual page 70 it shows how to adjust the write protect on/off this i can do, and on page 89... it shows how to transfer, this is the part i'm not sure of, i don't want to loose the programs i have, so thought i'd check with others who have done this pocedure. Any help appreciated, if you want, you can e-mail me some ideas as i'm at a lose Have a great day. Scott

Hi Scott, Do you have both Q20 units? If so, it is easy to copy User programs and almost all other settings to the other Q20. You need only one standard MIDI cable. Connect the MIDI cable to MIDI out of the Q20 you are copying from. Connect the other end of the cable to MIDI in of the Q20 you are copying to. You do not need to turn off write protection on either Q20. On the Q20 you are copying from, press MIDI button 9. Use PAGE > (6) to go through the pages until you reach SEND MIDI PROGRAM: then make sure the underline cursor is below the LHS set of characters, turn the wheel clockwise until it reads SEND MIDI PROGRAM: ALL, then press the wheel in and release it to transfer all data to the other Q20. It should take about 20 seconds. Remove the MIDI cable from both units. Turn the wheel fully anti-clockwise to show 0-00 TO 0-00, then press PROGRAM to return to normal operation. Test the copied data in the other Q20 to make sure everything transferred correctly. I have never known it to fail but best to be sure. If necessary, enable write protection, even if it was write protected to begin with. Regards, Charlie

Hi Charlie, tnx i did the copying from one Q20 the the other while i was on line reading your instructions, and it worked GREAT. i now have both units working super. Someday now that i have the back-up unit, i will again read the "destuctions" and see if i get lucky enough to copy the data into a file on my computer using the Edirol interface. Sure appreciate the help. Have a great day. Scott

Q2 to Q2 ? I am in the process of changing batteries on my Q2s and need to save the patches onto another Q2, the handbook instructs to use 2 midi cables so the units can talk to each other,I think mine have fell out with each other, the book method is the same as Charlies, except for the number of cables used, the receiving Q2 had a hard reboot to clear the user programs, leaving one preset program in situ..... No amount of button pushing and book reading will get the programs from one to the other, any ideas out there,am I missing something ......the donor Q2 tells me it is sending the files but they never appear on the other Q2..............Alan J oakeswell studio

Does the quad receiving the data not state 'receiving data' ?. If not, ensure SYSEX ENABLE is turned ON. It seems to default to OFF. Use the up/down button to find it.
If you get a message 'buffer overflow' then the midi leads your using are not good enough to transfer the data. Do the lights work/flicking on the receiving quad?
There are some instructions on the front page of the site 'Edirol Loan Service' which may help as the instructions for transferring data are there.

A hard reset of the receiving unit should set it up ready to receive. Try using one cable from the MIDI out of the sending unit to MIDI in of the receiving unit. The units should not need to talk in both directions. I always do it this way. If the sending unit was programmed by me, the MIDI out is disabled. If so, contact me charliehallATntlworld.com (replacing AT with @). Regards, Charlie
